About You

The Manager, Supply Chain, Appy/Food Service/Bakery is responsible for leading a team of Supply Chain Planners. The Manager, Supply Chain is tasked with modeling a customer centric approach to deliver the right quantity and product freshness to our customers while minimizing the cost to serve. This leader is directly responsible for leading a team that executes daily routines and processes to improve supply chain performance; including inventory turns, service level, cost to serve as well as supplier performance. The Manager, Supply Chain is responsible for developing a working environment where continuous improvement and division success is measured from the customer’s viewpoint. The Manager will be responsible to build and develop a diverse, high performing and engaged team of Supply Chain Planners.


As part of leadership in the division, this individual is expected to support our customers which includes our member organizations and retail stores. Additionally, this role is aligned with supporting and strategizing with our Wakefern owned subsidiaries, including Price Rite and SRS as well as our Alternate Banner formats.


Core Functions

The core functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Ability to create an inventory flow strategy that balances turnover and service level while minimizing risk
  • Utilizes the right combination of data and expertise to achieve the best possible product availability and shelf life.
  • Leads associates in development, implementation and simplification of complex inventory strategies within categories, aligning with merchandising needs
  • Oversees the placement and validation of orders within product categories by calibrating parameters within the supply chain process to determine appropriate inventory levels
  • Leads the development and execution of a consistent daily routine that is relevant to all Supply Chain Planner positions across the division
  • Drives continuous improvement by streamlining processes, eliminating redundancy and constantly evaluating workflow for effectiveness
  • Strategically develops and implements a demand planning process. Identifies an appropriate level of aggregation and time horizon for pre-season and in-season planning
  • Oversees category level inventory management such as, penetration by day, holiday flow, and other super-user defined responsibilities
  • Leads, coordinates and organizes top to top stakeholder meetings with key suppliers in order to improve speed, frequency and predictability of the supply chain
  • Develops and maintains a holistic, end to end, supply chain strategy that considers all aspects of the supply chain
  • Collaborates with appropriate company stakeholders to drive change management and achieve strategic goals
  • Creates and maintains strong partnerships with suppliers
  • Develops, implements and maintains a strategic VMI/Co-Manage program
  • Optimizes inventory flow to improve operational efficiencies. Takes into consideration receiving caps, space constraints and other operational limitations and metrics.
  • Develops customer focused goals for key performance metrics such as inventory turns, service level requirements and DC damages
  • Regular attendance and participation at Produce division committee meetings
  • Responsible for the on-boarding of new Supply Chain Planners
  • Leads Supply Chain Planner team to have strong supply chain fundamentals and acumen as well as an understanding of how inventory management links the business to the customer
  • Develops and maintains training and development programs for the Supply Chain Planner team


Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Four year college degree in Business, Supply Chain or a related field
  • Five year industry related experience preferred
  • Ability to forecast inventory levels to maximize financial goals and ROI
  • Strong communication, facilitation and analytical skills are required.
  • Knowledge of Wakefern operations, computer systems and applications, including RAPID and SAP preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise documents
  • Demonstrated interviewing ability preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Ability to sit/stand in front of a computer for long periods of time.
  • Ability to participate in retail store visits
  • Ability to travel as required
  • Ability to commute to the office 4x/week


Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $100,000-$140,000 annually. Placement in the range depends on several factors, including experience, skills, education, geography, and budget considerations.
