Emergency Service Worker Statement
In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

What You'll Be Doing
- Lead a team of 5–7 Environmental Health Specialists responsible for inspecting food, lodging, institutional, child care, tattoo, and public swimming pool facilities in compliance with state regulations
- Train staff and conduct quality assurance to assure staff are consistent in interpretation of the rules and regulations
- Inspect, evaluate, and issue permits for regulated facilities as needed
- Conduct and manage foodborne and communicable disease outbreak investigations
- Perform emergency response and complaint investigations
- Educate the general public concerning environmental and public health issues
- Conduct special projects as required

Required
The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field
- Four years of experience in environmental health, environmental planning, inspections or engineering
- NC Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)
- NC relevant authorizations
- Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

- Current or prior supervisory experience
- Relevant NC authorizations related to public health and inspections
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of environmental health rules and regulations
- Ability to work independently and with a team of Registered Environmental Health Specialists
