Emergency Service Worker Statement
In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

Primary Duties
- Provide routine and emergency maintenance to Stormwater Control Measures (SCM)’s
- Provide routine inspections and maintenance to Underground Storage Tanks (UST)’s
- Provide support for PROS (Parks Rec and Open Space) programs, well inspections and closures, utility locates, and septic/spray field maintenance
- Operate construction equipment, hand-held construction equipment, and other general construction tools
- Prepares County Property for adverse weather, civil protests, and unplanned events. Applies brine, salt and deciding compounds. Installs and recovers barricades, cones and other safety equipment.
- Cleans up and restores county properties after damage due to natural events, civil protests, or other unplanned events.
- Transports and Operates heavy equipment, dump and services trucks and trailers, handheld power equipment and other handheld tools to perform routine tasks and emergency responses.

Required
The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
- High school diploma or GED
- Two years of job related experience
- Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

- Storm Water BMP Inspection and Maintenance Certification (or obtained within 1 year)
- NC Pesticide License (or obtained within 1 year)
- UST Certification (or obtained within 1 year)
- Associate Degree in a related technical field
- Technical Certificate in a construction-related field
- FO – Forklift Operator License/Certificate (or obtained within 1 year)
- Commercial Driver’s License (or obtained within 1 year)
- Understanding of SCMs (Storm Water Control Measures)
- Experience with turf maintenance practices
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas and information
- Ability to utilize new technology to gather and compile information
- Ability to effectively utilize various computer programs and software
- Familiarity with machines and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance
- Advanced skill in operating various types of heavy equipment such as backhoes, track hoes, loaders, and skid steer equipment
- Ability to work in extreme outdoor environments for extended periods of time while performing moderate to heavy work
- Understanding of workplace safety practices and PPE in compliance with OSHA requirements
- Ability to firmly adhere to codes of conduct and ethical principles
- Ability to use good judgment to carry out detailed instructions from a supervisor
- Ability to identify problems, determine possible solutions, and actively work to resolve issues with sound judgment
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
