What You'll Be Doing

Wake County Child Welfare currently serves over 500 children in our foster care system. Child Protective Services (CPS) is responsible for protecting children and enhancing their overall well-being by supporting and strengthening families. The Child Welfare division has three federally mandated goals. The first goal is safety - children will be protected from harm from child abuse and neglect. The second goal is permanence - children entering foster care will be reunited with family or placed in a new permanent home as quickly as possible. The third goal is well-being - the educational, health, and overall well-being of children in foster care or receiving Child Protective Services In-Home Services will be enhanced. Federal, state, and local policy dictate that Child Welfare seeks to accomplish these three goals by supporting and strengthening families.

The Child Welfare - Eligibility Caseworker II in the Child Welfare Division determines the initial and on-going funding source (including Federal Social Security Act's Title IV-E and North Carolina State funding sources) for children who enter into Foster Care. This position determines eligibility for children in the legal custody of Wake County Health & Human Services, adopted youth, children who are in the legal custody of private adoption agencies, foster children who are in the legal custody of other states residing in Wake County and children who receive adoption subsidies from other states that reside in Wake County.

Primary Responsibilities Include

  • Review court documents to ensure that proper funding sources are used throughout the life of the case
  • Receive and process applications
  • Complete reviews and respond timely to changes
  • Provide case and crisis management
  • Enter data and maintain on-going cases
  • Manage cases for youth that have SSI/Social Security disability Medicaid
  • Use both NCFAST (the electronic case management system) and PRIME (Hyland OnBase - the document management system) to manage the assigned tasks
  • Keep abreast of WCHHS protocols, state and federal policies related to child welfare, eligibility, and Medicaid

Required

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • High school degree or GED
  • Three years of job-related experience
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume.


Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Child Welfare experience, specifically determining Medicaid eligibility for children who have entered into foster care and are in legal custody of a Department of Social Services
  • Proficiency in NCFAST and PRIME

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:30 am - 5:15 pm

Hiring Range: 25.79 - 30.08 Commensurate with Experience

Market Range: 25.79 - 34.37

Emergency Service Worker Statement

In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
