Overview
Join Wagon Wheel Center for the Art's dynamic team as a Custodian/Facility Coordinator and become the heartbeat of our building maintenance and cleanliness! This vital role combines custodial duties with general maintenance tasks to ensure a welcoming environment for patrons, staff, and performers. The ideal candidate is dependable, proactive, and comfortable with both routine cleaning and hands-on repair work.

This position requires flexibility, with heavier workloads during our busiest production seasons (summer and December) when performances run daily. During the rest of the year, the role includes weekly cleaning along with ongoing handyman and facility upkeep projects.

Responsibilities

Cleaning & Custodial Duties

  • Perform daily and weekly cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing restrooms, offices, lobbies, rehearsal spaces, and backstage areas.
  • Follow established daily cleaning checklists to ensure consistent completion of routine tasks
  • Manage trash and recycling collection and disposal.
  • Deep-clean high-traffic areas, carpets, upholstery, and restrooms as needed.
  • Restock supplies (soap, paper products, cleaning materials).
  • Perform scheduled deep-cleaning tasks at regular intervals to maintain a high standard of cleanliness
  • Conduct walkthroughs to identify cleaning or maintenance needs.

Facility Upkeep & General Maintenance

  • Complete minor repairs such as changing lightbulbs, tightening fixtures, replacing ceiling tiles, patching/painting walls, fixing toilets, and adjusting hardware.
  • Support seasonal maintenance projects including touch-up painting, furniture moves, and light improvements.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and tools in good working order; organize supply storage areas.
  • Maintain maintenance and repair logs and spreadsheets in a timely manner, following up with management on progress, and ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Document quotes, invoices, and receipts for proper filing.
  • Monitor facility conditions and promptly report major maintenance concerns.
  • Assist with contractor access and coordination when outside service is required.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance to extend the life of equipment and building features.

Seasonal/Show Support

  • Increase cleaning frequency and flexibility during performance runs, particularly in summer months and December.
  • Work around theater schedules, including evenings or weekends as productions require.
  • Assist with emergency facility issues that may arise during performances.

Qualifications

  • Prior custodial, janitorial, or maintenance experience preferred.
  • Competency with general tools and minor repair tasks
  • Physical stamina to perform manual tasks including lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and climbing ladders if necessary.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours during peak performance seasons.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Strong attention to detail, safety, and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures including proper handling of chemicals and PPE use.
  • Maintain safe storage and labeling of cleaning and maintenance products.
  • Immediately report accidents, spills, hazards, or unsafe conditions.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual salary starting at $35,000, commensurate with experience and skills.
