Position: National Equipment Manager
Summary: The National Fleet Manager is responsible for managing the financial aspects of a company's vehicle and equipment fleet, including tracking maintenance costs, fuel expenses, vehicle purchases, and disposals, ensuring accurate accounting records are kept for all fleet assets, and providing detailed reports to management on the overall financial health of the fleet, often collaborating closely with leadership to optimize costs and operational efficiency within construction projects.
Key responsibilities of a Flee:
- Fleet asset tracking: Maintain a comprehensive inventory of all fleet vehicles and equipment, including details like make, model, purchase date, and current condition.
- Maintenance cost tracking: Monitor and record all maintenance expenses associated with the fleet, including labor, parts, and vendor invoices, ensuring accurate cost allocation to individual vehicles.
- Fuel management: Track fuel consumption, analyze fuel usage patterns, and identify potential cost-saving measures.
- Vehicle acquisition and disposal: Support the process of purchasing new vehicles, including budgeting, vendor negotiations, and proper documentation, as well as handling the sale or disposal of old vehicles.
- Insurance compliance: Ensure all fleet vehicles are properly insured and maintain accurate insurance records.
- Fleet management system usage: Utilize dedicated fleet management software to record data, generate reports, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to the fleet. Review and evaluate over/under allocations with recommendation to management for timely decision making.
- Budgeting and forecasting: Develop and manage the fleet budget, forecasting future expenses and identifying potential cost overruns or savings.
- Financial reporting: Prepare regular reports for management detailing fleet operational costs, maintenance trends, and overall fleet health. Make recommendations to management based on leading indicators and data.
- Vendor management: Negotiate contracts with vendors providing maintenance services, parts, and fuel.
- Compliance with regulations: Stay updated on relevant industry regulations regarding vehicle maintenance, emissions, and safety standards.
Required skills and qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, Accounting or Finance preferred
Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices
Proficiency with fleet management software
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities
Ability to collaborate with the fleet manager and other departments
