Job Title: General Maintenance Worker II
Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt/At-Will
Reports To: Foreman - Building Maintenance
Pay Grade/Days: 305/240
Dept./School: Maintenance

Primary Purpose:
Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the district. Assist with maintenance of grounds.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED certificate
Associate Degree preferred
Trade Certification preferred (Examples: HVAC, Electrical, Building Construction, Plumbing)

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of computers preferred
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Knowledge of construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures
Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbally)
Ability to operate hand and power tools
Ability to work independently
Ability to work at heights is required
Ability to operate heavy equipment preferred
Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends
Experience
Three (3) years’ experience in general building maintenance.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including repairing woodwork; installing floor tile (ceramic AND vct); painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing, electrical, and HVAC equipment.
  • Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs as needed.
  • Detect and report needed repairs on building structures, including lockers, furniture, equipment, and flooring.
  • Assist with roof repairs (metal, shingles, built-up, etc.) as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Stripe and paint parking lots and curbs as needed.
  • Assist with the installation of portable buildings as needed.
  • Receive and complete work orders as directed by maintenance foreman.
  • Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds.
  • Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.
  • Responsible for overseeing the Apprentice Program as the after-hours crew leader
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate equipment and use tools according to established safety procedures.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in working order.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise the Student Apprentice Program as the after-hours crew leader

Equipment Used:
Various hand tools, such as drills, socket set, screwdrivers, and test equipment and recovery machine and gauges.

Tools/Equipment Used: Small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools; truck, van, and heavy equipment
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
