What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Upfitting Mechanic / MIG Welding position at WA Jones?
Turn Your Fabrication Skills Into Custom Truck Builds
If you've spent the last 5 years in a custom fabrication or welding shop and take pride in building high-quality products from the ground up, W.A. Jones has a career worth exploring.
We're looking for an experienced MIG Welder/Fabricator to help build custom Class 7 & 8 commercial trucks for municipalities, contractors, and fleet customers. Every truck is built to order, meaning you'll work on something different every week—not repetitive production welding or assembly line work.
You'll spend the majority of your day fabricating, fitting, and MIG welding steel components before installing them onto brand-new commercial trucks. If you enjoy solving fabrication challenges, creating one-of-a-kind builds, and seeing the finished product leave the shop, you'll fit right in.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Lead Upfitting Mechanic, you'll help build complete custom truck upfits from start to finish.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Fabricate steel components used to mount and install commercial truck equipment.
- Perform high-quality MIG welding on structural steel and fabricated components.
- Read blueprints, work orders, and fabrication drawings.
- Fit, modify, and weld custom brackets, mounts, supports, and assemblies.
- Install dump bodies, snowplows, spreaders, service bodies, and other commercial truck equipment.
- Assist with mechanical assembly of truck equipment.
- Install basic 12-volt electrical components such as work lights, backup cameras, PTO controls, and warning lights.
- Assist with hydraulic system installation and troubleshooting.
- Inspect completed work to ensure every build meets W.A. Jones quality standards.
- Work closely with teammates to complete custom truck builds safely and efficiently.
