Typical Duties
Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the preparation and/or modification of the following:
- Civil/Structural engineering calculations
- Civil/Structural engineering plans, designs, and layouts
- Civil/Structural project specifications
- Civil/Structural portions of project proposals
- Civil/Structural portions of project cost estimates
- Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, professional skills, and experience.
- Prepare drawings for assigned designs and produce sketches for incorporation into drawings by Designers/Drafters.
- Research design options and document findings for the project lead engineer.
- May serve as Project Engineer and act as a designated client contact on smaller, less complex projects.
- Develop probable construction cost estimates for assigned projects within the department.
- Direct and supervise Designers/Drafters as required.
- Coordinate work with other disciplines, including architectural, mechanical, and electrical teams.
- Handle routine contract administration tasks.
- Utilize computer-assisted engineering and design software to prepare engineering design documents.
- Attend and participate in client and internal meetings.
- Perform field activities, including observing and recording existing conditions and verifying measurements within the project area.
- Organize, draft, and coordinate technical documentation.
- Manage and perform multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with advanced knowledge in civil and/or structural engineering obtained through a combination of experience and continuing education; or
- Master of Science in Civil Engineering with six or more years of experience demonstrating advanced technical knowledge in civil and/or structural engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Proficiency with STAAD.Pro or equivalent finite element analysis software.
- Experience working on multi-discipline projects, preferably within steel manufacturing, bioprocess, and/or petrochemical environments.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Professional licensure (SE, PE, or EIT) is preferred.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Background screening including employment history, education verification, criminal history, and driving record review.
