This role plays a critical part in driving productivity, minimizing downtime, and supporting continuous improvement aligned with AS9100 standards and customer expectations.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Team Supervision: Lead, schedule, and oversee daily activities of CNC milling machinists across shifts; ensure balanced workloads and efficient use of resources.
- Workflow Management: Prioritize work orders in collaboration with production control, ensuring on-time delivery while managing changeovers, setups, and machine utilization.
- Quality Oversight: Partner with Quality Control to ensure first article inspections, in-process checks, and final outputs meet aerospace specifications.
- Technical Support: Serve as the technical escalation point for milling operations; support troubleshooting, setup optimization, and problem-solving on complex parts or tight tolerance work.
- DMG Mori & Multi-Axis Machining Support: Provide guidance and hands-on support with DMG Mori machining platforms (including 3-, 4-, and 5-axis as applicable); assist machinists in improving setup efficiency, part quality, and machine utilization.
- Training & Development: Provide hands-on training, cross-training, and mentorship to machinists; develop talent and maintain high team competency.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to reduce cycle times, scrap, and rework; drive process standardization and adherence to lean manufacturing practices.
- Safety & Compliance: Promote a culture of safety, ensure compliance with company safety policies and industry regulations, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Communication: Relay shift handoff notes, daily status updates, and issues to supervisors and leadership; collaborate closely with Programming, Quality, and Maintenance.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in CNC milling, including setup, troubleshooting, and supervising or leading teams.
- Aerospace manufacturing experience required; strong understanding of AS9100 and tight-tolerance machining.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, GD&T, and aerospace work instructions.
- Experience with DMG Mori CNC equipment (3-, 4-, and/or 5-axis); strong understanding of 5-axis machining principles and workflows required.
- Familiarity with machining high-temperature aerospace alloys such as Inconel, as well as titanium, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; capable of managing multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team-building capabilities.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
