Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance: Prepare and review tax returns, including individual, corporate, partnership, and trust returns, ensuring accuracy and adherence to applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Tax Planning: Assist in tax planning initiatives by analyzing client financial data and identifying potential tax-saving opportunities. Provide guidance to clients regarding tax implications and strategies for minimizing tax liabilities.
- Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on complex tax issues and changes in tax legislation to ensure compliance and accurate advice. Stay updated on current tax laws, regulations, and industry trends.
- Client Engagement: Interact with clients to gather necessary tax-related information, respond to inquiries, and provide high-quality customer service. Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and collaboration.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues in the tax department, providing support, knowledge sharing, and contributing to the overall success of the team.
- Practice Management: At higher experience levels, work alongside firm members to shape the continued evolution of our practice and our people.
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or eligibility is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant tax experience in a public accounting firm, with a focus on tax compliance and planning.
- Tax Knowledge: Strong understanding of federal and state tax laws and regulations.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in tax software (e.g., CCH ProSystem fx, Thomson Reuters UltraTax) and Microsoft Office suite (particularly Excel). Familiarity with financial accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP) is desired but not required.
- Review & Management: At higher experience levels, prior experience reviewing tax returns, projects, and staff.
- Analytical Abilities: Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex tax laws and regulations and apply them to client situations. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively explain complex tax concepts to clients and colleagues.
- Time Management: Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.
