W. G. Tomko is looking for a Transportation/ Heavy Equipment Manager. Please note that the salary range for this job posting is based on Indeed’s salary range data. Position Summary:
Under limited supervision, the Equipment / Maintenance Manager directs and oversees the company’s equipment and maintenance operations along with CDL transportation. The Manager schedules and prioritizes equipment repairs and trucking. This position also oversees multiple maintenance mechanics and CDL drivers establishing productivity goals and tracking progress of work.
Essential Functions:
- Supervises daily operations of the maintenance shop, mechanics, CDL drivers, building maintenance staff, Hill operators, and dump site.
- Establishes productivity expectations and tracks the production and activity of workforce including assigning OT (including nights, weekends, holidays), and shiftwork.
- Scheduling transportation needs of materials and equipment requiring a CDL driver / Class A or B truck.
- Reviewing daily of timesheets of all employees under his / her direction
- Effectively trains, coaches, disciplines, and develops employees to achieve and maintain positive working relationships within the organization.
- Achieves desired results through effective leadership and appropriate influence while adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Ensures the maintenance shop is properly maintained, functional and clean.
- Oversees maintenance and repair of equipment, both in the shop and at the project sites.
- Source and purchases parts for equipment and vehicles adhering to the Tomko purchasing guidelines.
- Expense reporting for company credit card used to purchase material for vendors we do not have accounts with.
- Schedule emissions testing and inspection of all Tomko owned vehicles.
- Manage the day to day of the in-house inspection station.
- Outsources repairs, maintenance and inspections as workload and personnel capacity changes.
- Manages the inbound and outbound inspection process of all equipment to ensure the dependability and upkeep so that machines are in ready to work condition.
- Establishes and monitors service schedules on equipment / vehicles for preventative maintenance warranty compliance.
- Determines what equipment and vehicles to be sold / replaced.
- Research new equipment / vehicles to make the best decision what new equipment / technology is the right fit for the organization.
- Support on the job projects including scheduling requested equipment, transportation, equipment maintenance (repairs and sourcing parts), and fueling.
- Ensures the ready status of idle equipment.
- Assist field superintendents as needed.
- Be on call 24 / 7 to expedite emergencies (ex. water, gas, sewer, and steam line repairs)
- Oversee the development, construction, and maintenance of Tomko properties.
- Determines methods and course of action to achieve departmental and organizational goals through effective planning and efficient performance of the department.

- Exercises good interpersonal skills by gladly assisting others to accomplish work of the organization, even if it is outside the scope of regular duties.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with other divisions of the company.

- Oversee the maintenance of Tomko family residences and vehicles.
- Perform any other duties that may arise outside of these outlined tasks.
- Enforces and abides by all W.G. Tomko, Inc Safety policies and procedures.
- Supervises weekly Safety Meetings for the associates working within his department.
- Saves and files all documents from weekly Safety meetings on Share Point in appropriate file for the specific division.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5-10 years managing heavy highway equipment maintenance facility with extensive knowledge of heavy highway equipment and trucks.
- Experience with computer programs, especially Microsoft Excel, required.
- Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, charts, and graphs (electric schematics, drawings, etc.).
- Ability to oversee projects and employees.
- Sufficient knowledge of mathematics including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to schedule and prioritize all work assignments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of diverse individuals.
- Ability to enforce and abide by all Tomko rules and procedures.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position supervises all mechanics and drivers.
Work Environment:
This position works in a mechanic shop office environment. Pleasant and safe working atmosphere and conditions, which at times may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Physical Effort:
Moderate physical effort that may require handling of average-weight objects more than 35 pounds and some standing and walking.
Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 6:00AM-4:00PM. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand.
