POSITION SUMMARY
The Shop Service Technician repairs forklifts and various other equipment that W.D. Matthews Machinery Co. sells and services at an onsite W.D. Matthews shop location. The equipment that a Shop Service Technician is expected to maintain and repair includes, but is not limited to; gas, diesel, propane and electric powered material handling equipment as well as aerial lift and manlift equipment. The Shop Service Technician position reports directly to the Field Service Manager and operates with a technician team. The Shop Service Technician will coordinate with and work directly under the supervision of the Shop Service Manager to complete orders in an organized and timely manner. This position requires mechanical experience and interest and/or related skills. The Shop Service Technician must have basic mechanical and technical experience, preferably at least two years. Corrective and preventative forklift maintenance experience is very desirable, but candidates with other mechanical repair experience in a variety of areas is considered. General computer experience is needed to run diagnostic and other programs. In addition, Vocational Tech education with a focus in the automotive, equipment, or hydraulics is preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Maintain, repair and inspect material handling and manlift equipment
- Keep and maintain records, according to company practice, regarding all maintenance activities and other administrative actions
- Respond to and resolve customer repair requests and complaints
- Order and track parts ordered for a repair job
- Occasional fabrication
- Clean and wash equipment
- Follow safety procedures such as isolating power sources and stored energy for safe maintenance and repair
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Skill Requirements:
- At least two years of mechanical repair or comparable service experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Corrective and preventative forklift maintenance is preferred
- Thorough knowledge of general maintenance requirements of various pieces of equipment
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with staff and customers and ability to establish effective working relationships and customer relations
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to adapt to changes quickly such as switching tasks or jobs with little or no notice
- Proficient oral and written communications skills
Education Requirements:
- Highschool diploma or GED
- Vocational Tech classes or degree with a focus in the automotive, equipment, or hydraulics is preferred
