Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced
Senior Electrical Engineer
with at least 10 years of related experience and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. This role will focus on electrical power system design for large projects, including nuclear plant systems. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in electrical engineering design principles, as well as experience in overseeing projects, providing technical direction, and ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Electrical Power System Design:
Assist in preparing and overseeing the design of electrical power systems, including creating scope documents, schedules, budgets, and system layouts. This includes working on single line diagrams, elementary diagrams, and wiring diagrams. - Code and Compliance Management:
Ensure all designs are in compliance with federal, state, and local codes, as well as applicable regulatory requirements. This includes QA requirements, as well as maintaining adherence to industry standards. - Project Coordination and Technical Direction:
Provide technical direction to engineers, designers, and drafters on electrical system designs, ensuring high-quality results and efficiency. Coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet budget and schedule goals. - Startup and Checkout Assistance:
Assist in the checkout and startup processes for electrical systems when necessary, ensuring that all systems are functioning correctly and safely. - Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Effectively communicate with other engineering disciplines, plant staff, and external vendors to maximize the effectiveness of electrical systems designs and project execution. - Problem-Solving and Decision Making:
Apply analytical and problem-solving skills to provide solutions, and make independent decisions with minimal management consultation. - Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare and maintain accurate documentation related to designs, technical specifications, and project schedules.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. - Experience:
Minimum 10 years of related experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on power system design, preferably in power plants or nuclear facilities. - Technical Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of electrical engineering design principles, specifically power plant electrical system design.
- Experience providing technical direction in preparing design details, drawings, and calculations.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and CAD Overlay (preferred but not required).
- Knowledge and experience with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and QA standards.
- Ability to schedule and coordinate projects to meet cost and schedule objectives.
- Project Management:
Experience in managing large projects, particularly in nuclear plant design, with a demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision. - Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
Strong communication skills to interact effectively with plant staff, vendors, and other engineering groups, and to ensure the successful execution of projects. - Problem-Solving:
Analytical, decision-making, and troubleshooting skills to address issues as they arise during the design and implementation process. - Industry Knowledge:
Familiarity with the industry design process (IP-ENG-001) is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus.
- Experience with nuclear plant electrical system design and associated regulatory requirements.
- Advanced knowledge of engineering software and tools related to electrical design.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
