What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at VPF Consulting LLC?
Overview
We are looking for an Accounting & Financial Analyst to join our finance team at a meaningful inflection point. This is not a staff accountant backfill it is a deliberately designed role that bridges transactional accounting execution with analytical and FP&A support.
The right candidate brings 2–4 years of accounting experience, and has the analytical instincts to grow beyond the close into cost intelligence, variance analysis, and AI-assisted financial planning work. If you are someone who is tired of pure transactional work and wants a seat at the table where analysis informs real business decisions, this role is built for you.
Responsibilities:
Close & Accounting Operations
- Own a defined set of recurring monthly close journal entries — relieving the accounting manager and senior analysts from transactional preparation work
- Support the AR clerk on sub-ledger reconciliation and the GL interface process
- Assist with process documentation — a critical initiative as we formalize institutional knowledge and close procedures
- Contribute to a monthly close target of 7 business days with clean, reviewed entries
Cost Accounting & Inventory Analysis
- Support cost accounting fundamentals: variance tracking, inventory analysis inputs, and basic standard cost maintenance
- Assist with monthly inventory reporting — turnover by category, aging, and slow-move identification
- Build and maintain analytical models supporting cost intelligence and margin analysis
- Work closely with senior analysts on data validation and cost-related BI outputs
FP&A & Financial Analysis
- Assist with budget vs. actual reporting, rolling forecast inputs, and management commentary — supported by AI tooling that handles the mechanics
- Support scenario modeling and financial analysis as the FP&A function matures
- Partner with the CFO and Sr. Data Analysts on ad hoc analytical requests and business case support
- Contribute to the evolution of AI-assisted reporting and forecasting capabilities
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of progressive accounting experience, with a track record of owning close responsibilities
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Solid foundational accounting knowledge — journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, GL mechanics
- Strong Excel skills — comfortable building and working within structured models
- Analytical mindset: you are not satisfied just posting entries; you want to understand what the numbers mean
- Attention to detail paired with the ability to see the bigger picture — you know when to zoom in and when to zoom out
- Clear communicator who can work across accounting, analytics, and leadership without needing a translator
This role offers an engaging environment where your expertise directly impacts our organization’s financial health and growth trajectory. We’re committed to fostering a collaborative culture that encourages continuous learning and professional development—empowering you to thrive both personally and professionally.
