The Role
We are looking for a hands-on Plant Manager who leads from the floor, not from the office.
The Plant Manager owns the performance of the plant — safety, people, throughput, quality, cost, and customer service.
This is a role for someone who comes in early, knows what is happening in the plant, sees problems before they become excuses, and acts.
Every day, the Plant Manager should be asking:
What is preventing this plant from producing more, producing better, and serving our customers better — and what are we doing about it?
What We Expect
- Be on the floor. Walk the plant every day with intent. Talk to employees. Observe the process. Know where the problems are.
- Maximize throughput. Understand the plant's constraints and bottlenecks. Focus people and resources on removing them. The objective is not to keep everyone busy — it is to get more good product through the plant.
- Own the schedule. What we commit to our customers matters. Production must be organized around meeting those commitments.
- Act quickly. Problems should not sit in meetings, reports, or email chains. Identify the issue, determine the root cause, assign responsibility, and follow through until it is fixed.
- Build a strong team. Set clear expectations. Hold people accountable. Recognize good performance. Coach people who need help and deal with poor performance when necessary.
- Inspire people. Employees should understand what we are trying to accomplish, why it matters, and how their work contributes to the success of the plant.
- Know the numbers. Understand throughput, labor efficiency, downtime, scrap, quality, safety, cost, and on-time delivery. Use the numbers to run the plant — not simply report them.
- Protect the bottleneck. Equipment failures, poor scheduling, lack of material, absenteeism, quality problems, and changeovers cannot be allowed to unnecessarily starve or stop the plant's constraint.
- Keep equipment running. Maintenance must be proactive. Preventive maintenance should reduce breakdowns and downtime, not become a paperwork exercise.
- Create discipline. A good plant is clean, organized, safe, and predictable. Standards are visible and followed.
- Improve every day. Challenge waste, unnecessary movement, excessive inventory, downtime, rework, poor processes, and the phrase “that's how we've always done it.”
- Serve the customer. At the end of the day, the plant exists to make quality products and deliver what we promised, when we promised it.
How We Measure Success
A successful Plant Manager creates a plant where:
- People want to work.
- Equipment runs.
- Bottlenecks are attacked.
- Throughput increases.
- Quality improves.
- Costs come down.
- Orders ship on time.
- Customers are happy.
What We're Looking For
We care more about what you have accomplished than the words on your résumé.
You should have significant manufacturing leadership experience and be able to demonstrate that you have:
- Improved throughput and productivity.
- Led people successfully in a manufacturing environment.
- Solved difficult operational problems.
- Improved safety, quality, cost, or delivery performance.
- Developed supervisors and employees.
- Used data to make decisions and drive action.
- Taken ownership of results — good or bad.
A degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or a related field is helpful, but leadership, manufacturing experience, judgment, energy, and a track record of results matter more.
The Standard
We are not looking for someone to simply manage a plant.
We are looking for someone who will lead it, improve it, and take pride in its performance every single day.
