Job Description

POSITION GOAL
Serve as the district-wide technical authority for safety and security technology support—leading system integration, standards, and continuous improvement to maximize readiness and reliability

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1.*Provide district-wide subject matter expertise and technical leadership for safety and security technology including security cameras and video management software; door access control systems; fire and intrusion alarm systems; school visitor identification and emergency student reunification systems; intercom systems; network connected environmental sensors for vape detection with camera integration; student monitoring systems; law enforcement camera integration systems; walkthrough weapons detection systems; site protection drones; and technology hardware and systems for the Security Operations Center.
2.*Lead diagnosis and resolution of high-impact incidents affecting multiple sites and/or the Security Operations Center; coordinate cross-team response and communications.
3.*Design and maintain technical standards, configurations, and integration patterns for security platforms; develop and update SOPs, checklists, and training plans.
4.*Oversee advanced system programming and administration (roles/permissions, site templates, integrations, alert routing, retention/export workflows) consistent with approvals and governance.
5.*Plan and execute system upgrades, refreshes, and new deployments with vendors and district stakeholders; develop acceptance tests and verify operational readiness.
6.*Provide technical oversight for contractor work; validate as-built documentation and ensure work aligns to district standards and safety requirements.
7.*Support and optimize SOC technology and workflows, including monitoring stations, alert integrations, and incident-related video/records exports.
8.*Mentor and train technicians and senior technicians; assign work as needed during incidents and major projects; perform cross-training activities.
9.*Assist ITS leaders and Safety & Security leadership with technical planning and implementation of safety and security technology projects and refresh cycles.
10.*Accept shift assignments (within a 40-hour week), including nights and weekends, as assigned.
11.*May require working during non-business hours or non-school days and being on call to resolve safety and security technology issues on an emergency basis.
12.*Keep current with hardware and software technology through education courses and self-study.
13.Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager of Safety & Security Technical Support, Director of Infrastructure, or CTO.

Required Qualifications/Certifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate degree in a technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience plus specialized post-secondary technical training, courses, or certifications in electronic security systems, networking, or related areas.
  • At least five (5) years experience that demonstrates expert knowledge of electronic security platforms, system integration, and complex troubleshooting across distributed environments.
  • Two (2) years experience leading technical projects, advanced diagnostics, and/or electronics repair in field environments.
  • Demonstrated experience developing SOPs, training, and quality standards; experience coordinating multi-vendor environments preferred.
  • Experience working in an educational environment preferred.
  • Must be able to attend and complete various training sessions to maintain knowledge of current technology and systems.
  • Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License; if a holder of any other valid US state-issued Driver’s License, agree to acquire a Florida Driver’s License within thirty (30) days of employment, except in a case where accommodation is required.
  • Must be able to operate school board vehicles, when assigned, in accordance with operational procedures and School Board Policy 505.

REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and listening skills; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with school and district personnel, vendors, and public safety partners.
  • Expert knowledge of electronic security system architecture, installation, repair, and integration for video, access control, alarm interfaces, analytics, and SOC operations.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills; ability to isolate issues across software, firmware, network, power, and physical layer components.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and train others; establish standards for documentation, preventative maintenance, and acceptance testing.
  • Ability to analyze logs, reports, and device health metrics to identify recurring issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ability to coordinate complex vendor escalations and manage technical risk during incidents and system changes.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with executives, school leaders, and public safety partners; translate technical constraints into operational impacts.
  • Flexibility with hours to respond to site and district needs to meet attendance standards and work the hours necessary to perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to work safely in varied environments (indoors/outdoors, ladders, lifts, attics/crawl spaces) and to lift/carry equipment as required.
