About the Position:
Voices is hiring a Communications Manager. The Communications Manager will have primary responsibility for communications development and implementation for Voices for Virginia’s Children. The Communications Manager is committed to the mission, work, and values of Voices for Virginia’s Children, as well as to the principles of equity and inclusion.
Job Duties:
- Communications Development and Implementation: You will execute a communications plan/calendar that incorporates a wide variety of communications platforms, strategies, and methods to reach the diverse audiences and stakeholders connected to our work. You will manage the Voices website, social media strategy and presence, and digital communications, including the design of graphics, and visual content. You will write, edit, and design external communications.
- Evaluation and Reporting: You will track the effectiveness of various communication efforts and make strategic recommendations to the senior leadership team to increase reach and awareness.
- Collaboration: You will engage in cross-team collaboration with colleagues across every area of the organization. You will need to maintain a thorough understanding of organizational goals, priorities and programs to support all communications including development and policy. You will also work with external partners to share the work and impact of the organization.
- Racial Equity: You will promote racial equity across all dimensions of your work, ensuring that policies put forward are assessed for their impact on all races.
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication: Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas in a succinct and compelling manner.
- Experienced with Communication tools: A minimum of 3 years of experience utilizing various communication tools and platforms. Voices currently utilizes WordPress, Constant Contact and Canva
- Demonstrated understanding of visual design and brand management: Ability to effectively manage all aspects of a company or organization’s brand, including voice and visual elements.
- Collaborator: Ability to build relationships with legislators, community members, partners organizations and other stakeholders. Able to work collaboratively with others with different backgrounds, beliefs, and values. Engages in conflict productively. Able to be flexible with shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Strong commitment to social, economic, and racial justice. Actively centers equity and inclusion and promotes equitable practice and solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Highly organized, motivated, and detail oriented.
- Knowledge and experience with legislative work and/or our issue areas of focus: early care and education, child welfare, health equity, youth mental health and family economic security.
- Experience with media.

Location: This role will be based in Richmond, VA. Voices has a hybrid work schedule with an in-office day on Wednesdays in Richmond required. Additional in-person days in Richmond are required during the General Assembly session and throughout the year.
Salary: Salary of $58,000-$66,000 with robust employee benefits package. To preserve opportunity for salary growth, we do not hire above the mid-range.
