We are looking to add a Manufacturing Engineer (Box Build). The position is 100% fully based in our office at Milpitas, California.
As a Manufacturing Engineer (Box Build), you will:
- Provides hands-on support for R&D and NPI through in-house cable harness fabrication and rapid prototyping enabling quick design iteration, early risk identification, and smoother transition from prototype to production.
- Act as subject matter expert in assigned areas of production and support manufacturing by responding to technical questions from production personnel, customers, suppliers, and other groups.
- Reviews customer design specifications and creates manufacturing instructions and BOMs and keeps them up to date and aligned with customer ECOs.
- Identifies gaps and informs internal and external customers.
- Support continuous improvement by utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
- Analyzes and plans workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency. Uses Lean and 5S principles to design production cells.
- Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods. Submits purchase requests for tools and equipment needed to support manufacturing.
- Confers with customers and vendors to determine product specificationsand supports IQC by evaluating products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
- Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
- Applies statistical methods to calculate process controls and support future improvements.
- Develops labeling, serialization, and packaging procedures for products.
- Supports Quality and participates in root cause analyses, CAPA activities, inventory disposition, and other activities as needed.
- Works well with customer engineers during production line setups, line tours, and process demonstrations.
- Performs other duties and tasks assigned by management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, mechatronics engineering or equivalent with at least 4 years of hands-on experience developing manufacturing assembly processes.
- Familiarity with production/cell layout development using Lean and 5S methods.
- Experience in conceptualizing automated/semi-automated assembly fixtures, jigs, and tooling for assembly.
- Experience in SolidWorks (preferred), Creo (Pro/Engineer), and/or AutoCAD for design of tooling and cell layouts.
- Experience in time and work studies using standard tools and observation methods for operators.
- Experience in working with operators and line sups for improvements in productivity.
- Familiarity with general packaging requirements for industrial products.
- ISO 9001 experience is preferred.
- Ability to lift at least 20 lbs. and ability to stand and walk on the production line.
- Ability to build prototypes based on rudimentary documentation or verbal communication.
Yearly Salary Range: $100,000 - $120,000
