Job Summary:

The Human Resources (HR) Generalist is responsible for serving as a subject matter expert on wide ranging topics such as federal and state employment laws, compensation, recruiting, benefits, workers compensation, performance management, employee engagement and employee issues and training. The HR Generalist will be responsible for day-to-day activities across all subjects and will work collaboratively and provide mentorship to the HR Coordinator. The HR Generalist is expected to develop strong, lasting, and professional relationships based on trust, mutual respect and understanding with the workforce.

  • Under the direction of the HR Vice President, provides Human Resources subject matter expertise for all employees on a range of HR topics.
  • Provides day-to-day management for:
    • Employee benefits program.
    • Leaves of Absence
    • Workers’ Compensation
  • Responsible for recruiting a wide range of positions and partnering with temporary staffing services.
    • Responsible for developing job descriptions ranges
  • Assists the HR Vice President with policy development, content and rollout.
  • Assists the HR Vice President with training development, content and rollout.
  • Supports New Hire Orientation processes and may provide New Hire Orientation training on an as needed basis.
  • Under the direction of the HR Vice President, responsible for researching and developing compensation structures.
  • Assists with on-boarding and off-boarding activities.
  • Assists with exit interviews for off-boarding employees.
  • Provides support for Annual Performance Management program and provides HR oversite review.
  • Supports all reporting processes and submits information accurately and on time annually.
  • Provides sound advice to employees and managers regarding human resources issues.
    • Meets with management and employees to review and resolve employee issues.
    • Participate in corrective action, counseling and mentoring meetings with staff members.
  • Manage electronic and paper filing systems.
  • Demonstrates passion, interest and curiosity in the Human Resources profession and in the core competencies of the organization.
  • Demonstrates an interest in professional learning opportunities
  • Demonstrates ethical professional behavior at all times while representing the Human Resources Team and the organization.
  • Develop professional relationships built on trust, mutual respect and understanding.
  • Demonstrates impartiality, confidentiality, consistency and reliability in performing comprehensive job duties.
  • Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Travel as required.

Other Functions

  • Enforces Company policies and safety procedures.
  • Regularly updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Maintain IPA, Health Plan compliance standards.

Competencies

  • Four (4) to Six (6) years progressive Human Resources experience required.
  • Four (4) to Six (6) years progressive experience in the following disciplines required: Human Relations, Benefits Management, Compensation, Workers Compensation, Leaves of Absence, Recruiting, Performance Management, Training and Policy Development.
  • Mid to Advanced understanding of California and Federal Labor laws and the ability to interpret them correctly for the benefit of the organization is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with particular attention to detail are essential and required.
  • Administrator level experience using Paycom or similar HRMS is required.
  • Interest, skill and ability to use new technology and apply process improvement is required.
  • Experience working in a healthcare or medical insurance environment is preferred.
  • Prior experience writing human resources policies is required.
    Excellent interviewing skills and the ability to make sound recommendations regarding future hires.
  • Excellent active listening and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to solve mid-level problems with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, confidence, and sincerity while quickly and positively engaging employees and candidates.
  • Ability to develop and present training materials to an audience.
  • Ability to multi-task, exercise excellent time management, and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrated excellence in project management and organization.
  • Ability to provide and receive constructive job and/or industry related feedback.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately share information on a need-to-know basis.
  • Ability to exercise sound discretion and strict maintenance of confidentiality of all confidential and sensitive communications and information.
  • Ability to consistently deliver excellent customer service.
  • Ability to effectively and positively work in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment and achieve objectives.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the organization’s mission.
  • Must have mid-level skills in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must have the ability to quickly learn and use new software tools.
  • Must have mid-level skills using e-mail applications.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, multi-tasking, planning, and follow up skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to present self in a professional manner and represent the Company image.
  • Demonstrated project success is expected.

Education and Licensure

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • BA/BS in Business, Psychology or other related field is required.
  • PHR Preferred
  • SHRM-CP Preferred
