CLEANING TECHNICIAN POSITION SUMMARY

The Cleaning Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and secure environment within the correctional facility. This position performs routine and specialized cleaning services in administrative areas, medical units, common areas, and other assigned spaces in accordance with facility policies, security procedures, and health regulations. The Cleaning Technician must work with professionalism, discretion, and strict adherence to safety and security protocols to support the overall operation, safety, and cleanliness of the institution. The Cleaning Technician follows detailed instructions, maintains confidentiality, interacts appropriately within a controlled environment, and complies with all institutional rules, including movement restrictions, tool control, and inmate interaction guidelines

CLEANING TECHNICIAN ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

• Performs routine and deep cleaning of assigned areas including housing units, restrooms, showers, dayrooms, administrative offices, medical units, visitation areas, and common spaces  


• Sweeps, mops, scrubs, vacuums, and sanitizes floors, walls, ceilings, fixtures, and surfaces according to facility standards. 


• Cleans and disinfects toilets, sinks, showers, and other high-touch surfaces to prevent the spread of infection.


• Promotes a culture of safety and good hygiene.


• Empties trash and biohazard waste containers and dispose of waste in accordance with facility, environmental, and health regulations.


• Operates and maintains cleaning equipment (e.g., buffers, vacuums, floor scrubbers) safely and correctly


• Restocks supplies such as soap, paper products, and disinfectants in assigned areas.


• Mixes, handles, and uses cleaning chemicals in compliance with safety guidelines, SDS instructions, and facility policies.


• Follows all security procedures including tool control, key control, inmate movement protocols, and contraband prevention.


• Maintains constant awareness of surroundings and report safety, sanitation, or security concerns immediately.


• Complies with all institutional rules, confidentiality requirements, and chain-of-command instructions.


• Documents completed work, supply usage, and any incidents according to facility procedures.


• Participates in required safety, security, and compliance training.


• Responds to emergency cleaning needs such as spills, floods, or biohazard incidents as directed.


• Maintains a clean and organized storage area for supplies and equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES LEAD / HOUSEKEEPING MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS  

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is preferred.


• Ability to divide attention among several tasks and prioritize those tasks 


• Must be able to complete required facility training, including safety, security, and compliance education.
