What are the responsibilities and job description for the Carrier Dispatch Specialist position at Vital Tech Solutions?
Shift: 10:00 AM–7:00 PM shifts and approximately one weekend per month.
Our client is a well-established transportation and logistics organization seeking a Dispatcher / Carrier Specialist to support the coordination of shipments and third-party carrier activity. This individual will play a key role in keeping orders moving, maintaining accurate shipment information, resolving service issues, and communicating with carriers and internal stakeholders throughout the transportation process.
The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to build productive relationships with transportation partners are essential.
- Coordinate and manage assigned loads from initial dispatch through final delivery.
- Secure third-party carrier capacity while working within established pricing and service guidelines.
- Monitor open and active orders to ensure pickups, deliveries, and shipment statuses remain accurate and on track.
- Identify potential service issues or delays early and take appropriate action to resolve them.
- Maintain accurate, timely updates within the company's transportation management system.
- Communicate proactively with carriers, account teams, and internal operations staff regarding shipment status, ETAs, and exceptions.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with transportation partners and carriers.
- Troubleshoot operational and service issues and escalate when additional support is needed.
- Balance carrier needs, customer service expectations, and company profitability.
- Provide coverage for team members during scheduled rotations and absences.
- Participate in rotating late-shift and weekend coverage.
Requirements
- College degree or at least one year of experience in logistics, dispatch, transportation, or a similar operational environment.
- Transportation or trucking industry experience preferred.
- Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
- Excellent customer service, relationship-building, and problem-solving abilities.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable making decisions and working effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid Microsoft Excel skills, including sorting/filtering data, basic formulas, reporting, and pivot tables.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Ability to quickly learn transportation management and internal operating systems.
- Familiarity with DOT/FMCSA regulations preferred.
- Electronic logging system experience is a plus.
