CERTIFICATED JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE OF POSITION: DIRECTOR, STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES 

A. Primary Function: Responsible for planning, aligning, developing, organizing, directing, and evaluating the district’s student support services and equity systems; providing leadership and supervision to various groups; providing information and recommendations, addressing a wide variety of administrative processes, within the context of the District’s goals including but not limited to, community schools equity strategy, child welfare, Title IX, and guidance to ensure that each child receives what they need to develop to their full academic and social potential in a family centered, equity driven hub, strengthened by community partnerships and comprehensive wrap around services..

B. Directly Responsible to: Executive Director, Student Support Services or designee

C.        Staff Assigned: Student Services & Education Equity staff 

D. Representative Duties:

  1. Provides leadership, direction, support, and supervision for Student Services and Education Equity. E

  2. Supports Executive Director in disciplinary, suspension, re-entry, and expulsion procedures. E

  3. Ensures District-wide compliance with Title IX regulations and Board Policy, as the LEA Title IX Coordinator for students and athletics, including procedural management, assigning and supporting investigators, providing timely, thorough, and accurate responses. E

  4. Leads and supports District investigators, identifying needs, develops and communicates resources and manages consultations procedures for Title IX. E

  5. Identifies and addresses patterns or systematic issues of sexual harassment, sexual violence, sexual discrimination, and disciplinary patterns for Title IX, Equity, and Community Schools analysis.

  6. Engages and supports school administrators to create, strengthen and maintain a shared leadership system through school-level Community School Advisory Councils (CSAC), including administration, school counselors, teachers, students, parents, community liaisons and community partners, who will oversee the transition of the site from a traditional school to a Community School. E

  7. Engages and supports each school-level CSAC to develop a strategic action plan, aligned to the assessed assets and needs, that effectively leverages school, district and grant resources to achieve measurable goals that directly increase access, opportunity and outcomes for students. Supports CSAC to identify specific actions that will create the conditions necessary for success, in alignment with the Community Schools Framework. E

  8. Participates and takes leadership roles in District level, county, state, and national committees as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

  9. Participates in meetings as required for the purpose of conveying and gathering information regarding a wide variety of subjects required to carry out their administrative duties. 

  10. Coordinates with other district leaders to proactively address equity gaps related to student support services, including attendance, discipline, and expulsion. E

  11. Collaborates with Educational Excellence and Innovation, Special Education, and Multilingual Education to develop and implement a Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS). 

  12. Develops and provides training on equity and service. E

  13. Acts as liaison to outside agencies for equity, community, McKinney-Vento, Foster, Teen Parents, LGBTQ , PSA and racial justice. E

  14. Prepare reports for the Governing Board and Cabinet as assigned. 

  15. Supervises home and hospital for general education students and collaborates with Special Education for students with an IEP.

  16. Oversee drug prevention and intervention programs.

  17. Oversee attendance procedures, from prevention to intervention strategies.

  18. Support with mental health supports, with outside providers, grants, billing, and procedures for Commercialized Sexual Explotation of Children, Trauma Informed Practices and Suicide Awarenes, and Grieving. 

  19. Oversees social workers and their programs to support marginalized students. 

  20. Engages and supports each Community School to identify, evaluate, and expand community partnerships and align to the strengths, interests and needs of all children and families, including before/after school, evening, weekend, and intersession opportunities. E

  21. Engages and supports each Community School to implement school level, multi tiered social emotional systems that ensure a comprehensive, well articulated program of instruction aligned to the CASEL Framework and CA SEL Standards /Competencies, PBIS/RJ.

  22. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records, and files related to the effectiveness of assigned activities and personnel related to community schools. 

  23. Ensures compliance with District, State, Federal and County office regulations, policies, and procedures. 

  24. Evaluates assigned personnel.

  25. Performs other duties as assigned. 




E. Education and Experience:

Valid California Administrative Services Credential 

Valid California driver’s license

Completion of a Master’s Degree

At least ten (10) years of increasingly responsible teaching/counseling and administrative experience

Experience with high school athletics preferred

F. Qualifications:

Knowledge of: 

Principles, practices, trends, goals, and objectives of public education pertaining to student support services, including the areas of admissions, student discipline support, student health services, student attendance, truancy, health services, and any other services to support student success.  

Assessing the needs for student services programs and making recommendations accordingly specifically those identified as Community Schools.

Legal mandates, policies and regulations pertaining to student support programs and Title IX.

Supervision and evaluation of staff, analyzing staffing requirements and make recommendations; scheduling and arranging trainings 

Effective oral and written communication and effective listening skills  

Supervision, evaluation, and program and budget development  

Demonstrated knowledge and professional skills in working with a diverse community  

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy

  Abilities to:

Communicate effectively orally and in writing

Work in a diverse socio-economic and multicultural community

Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance

Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff

Plan, organize, and develop instructional service budget planning, and expenditure control processes and procedures pursuant to student support programs

Read a variety of materials

Meet schedules and deadlines

Maintain records and exercise confidentiality 

Use a computer or other technology-based equipment
