Job Description
Position Title: Community Thrift Shop Manager
Non Exempt
Location: Huntington
Days/Hours: four 7 hour days/week, 9:30am - 4:30pm with flexible additional hours as needed in consideration of Thrift Shop hours of operation Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm.
Reports To: Community Thrift Shop Board President
Position Summary: The Community Thrift Shop (CTS) Manager performs duties in accordance with CTS Bylaws, is responsible for the successful operation of CTS and guidance of the CTS role to serve the community and generate income for charitable donations. Opens and closes CTS in prompt, safe and efficient manner while supervising day-to-day operations of CTS including but not limited to:
Duties and Responsibilities:
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Maintain accurate records of retail operations and financial activity of the store via the Square sales system and interface with offsite accounting department.
Perform accurate and detailed tracking of daily, weekly, and monthly receipts including counting money at end of a.m. and p.m. shifts.
Deposit cash daily.
Manage petty cash reconciliation.
Review/Approval of all Accounts Payable invoices and proper submission to Accounting Department.
MERCHANDISE MANAGEMENT
Monitor receipt of merchandise. Advise agencies when excess donations must be removed or when additional product is needed.
Maintain pricing guidelines and ensure that staff are trained in them.
Manage monthly sales and weekly promotions.
Submission of promotional schedule to Marketing for advertising purposes.
Oversee the development of promotional signage including Marketing approval.
Supervise the disposal of un-sellable and unsold merchandise.
Ensure volunteers sort, price and display product on the selling floor.
VOLUNTEER, STAFF AND CONTRACTOR MANAGEMENT
Train, supervise and schedule CTS volunteers for sorting, pricing, merchandising, customer service and greeting to ensure optimal operation.
Collaborate with the VNSHS Hospice Support Services Coordinator if additional volunteer support is needed.
Supervise part time managers, cleaning staff, garbage disposal and salvage pickup.
Ensure orderly presentation of CTS and merchandise.
ONLINE AND CONSIGNMENT SALES
Manage online sales process to include but not limited to product selection, photography, pricing, description, posting online, customer service, negotiation and sales, and product shipping.
Oversee consignment sales process to include but not limited to relationship with consignment vendor, selection of product and collection of income.
OTHER
Attend CTS Board of Directors meetings and report on sales, donations, volunteers, marketing, and repairs and making recommendations for procedural changes.
Address and resolve minor maintenance issues and/or repair needs and bring major repair problems to the attention of the Board President.
Maintain and order supplies.
Ensure that volunteers issue tax receipts to donors.
Secure product appraisals when necessary.
Maintain and update CTS Facebook, Instagram and website.
Maintain an Excel summary of supplies ordered and received, customer financial donations, online and consignment sales.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and precautions.
Qualifications:
Retail experience required, thrift shop experience a plus.
Excellent customer service, Adept with computer applications including MS Excel and Word and social media skills.
