On our journey to realize our mission, we are seeking a Plant Operator for our Magnolia site located in Summerdale, Alabama.
Viridi Magnolia Operations Description
Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) upgrading facility using Landfill Gas as the source of biogas. Co-located at the landfill, the upgrading facility will produce pipeline quality natural gas around the clock. The standard working hours will be Monday through Friday day shift, with a rotating on-call schedule to respond to outages or issues on nights and weekends, and overtime as required.
Equipment utilized at the site include gas compression, Siloxane and NMOC removal, H2S removal, CO2, O2, and N2 removal (Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorption), and a thermal destruction device (flare). RNG upgrading is expected to commence in Q3 of 2024. Construction, equipment installation, and commissioning work will be part of the role of the Plant Operator under guidance of the Magnolia Plant Manager and Viridi Execution team.
Scope of Role
This is an RNG biogas upgrading plant operator position. This role requires the successful candidate to become a fully qualified plant operator that will be part of the on-call rotation and fully capable of running all operations within the plant.
This role is being filled during construction, prior to mechanical completion of the plant. The successful candidate will be involved in and support construction, commissioning, and start up of the plant, then be part of the Magnolia team responsible for successful operation of the plant.
Duties and Responsibilities
Construction
- Support the Plant Manager in plant construction activity as directed by the Viridi Execution team with focus on safety, reliability, and operability
- Demonstrate and drive the Viridi safety culture by monitoring onsite safety; ensuring all best safety practices are followed, PPE is appropriate, and performing work permit audits
- Perform receiving inspection for consumables, equipment, instrumentation, and any components for use in construction and operation of the facility, ensuring all items received are correct and operable prior to installation or use
- Validate installations of equipment, piping, wiring, and controls are in alignment with approved P&ID’s, drawings, documentation, and operability best practices as appropriate
Commissioning
- Participate in PSSR (pre-startup safety review) for each system component in the facility supporting the Plant Manager and Project Manager to confirm proper operation and performance of each system
- Support the Plant Manager and Project Manager field verifications and confirmation of proper installation (e.g. motor rotation, terminal blocks tight, nut and bolt torque checks, etc)
- Participate in RFSR (ready for startup review) of the process from start to finish supporting the Plant Manager and Project Manager in preparation to perform plant start up
Start Up
- Act as board operator of the site during start up with support from the Plant Manager and Execution Team with the goal to be a qualified board and plant operator by the Commercial Operations Date
- Support the Plant Manager in identifying and developing documentation required for Operations; including Standard Operating Procedures, Maintenance Procedures, Emergency Action Plan, Spare Parts List, etc
Operations
- Perform all duties and actions safely
- Support plant process improvement projects, commissioning, startup, and operation of the LFG to RNG upgrading facility.
- Ensure that all employees, contractors, and visitors follow safety and security protocols
- Operate and maintain all biogas upgrading equipment and associated support systems to produce the highest quality and quantity of RNG in a safe and reliable manner.
- Perform corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance tasks as required on mechanical, electrical, and controls systems
- Perform calibrations as needed for plant systems and instrumentation
- Identify and troubleshoot any deviations from expected conditions or plant performance
- Actively engage in identifying and providing improvement suggestions for safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations
- Perform routine operator rounds and inspections - collecting, reporting, and analyzing data to identify changes or issues
- Maintain an organized and clean plant
- Manage supplies, consumables, and spare parts inventory
- Work well in a team environment, able to work independently
- Provide open and immediate communication with managers and supporting personnel on urgent matters
- Perform duties as assigned that may extend into other programs or areas to meet company needs
- Must be able to work overtime as needed and be on-call for nights/weekends rotation
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Two or more years of manufacturing or industrial operations experience
- Knowledge of mechanical and/or electric systems; and equipment repair and operation
- Ability to learn and become qualified as a plant operator
- Strong command of English language, both verbal and written
- A valid driver's license in good standing
Preferred
- Associates Degree in a technical discipline
- Technical skill certification(s)
- Chemical plant or gas processing experience
- Renewable Natural Gas or Natural Gas industry experience
- US Military Veterans are encouraged to apply
Physical Requirements
- Various working conditions including office work, work at a computer, outside work in all weather conditions, and inside plant work in both heat and cold.
- Work in tight spaces, overhead, low to the ground, and on uneven surfaces.
- Capable of lifting 50 pounds safely, climbing ladders and scaffolding, standing for long periods.
- Respond quickly to alerts, alarms, and changes in plant conditions or status.
- Ability to work safely with a range of chemicals and materials utilizing appropriate PPE.
