Senior Electrical Engineer
Location: Hybrid in Charlotte, NC (3 days in office/week)

The Senior Electrical Engineer will provide technical leadership for power system engineering activities across renewable energy projects. This individual will solve complex engineering challenges with minimal supervision, support cross-functional teams, and contribute to the design, operation, and optimization of utility-scale generation assets. The role also includes mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with internal stakeholders, equipment manufacturers, and external partners.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise in the analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of complex electrical engineering issues.
- Support the planning, scheduling, execution, and monitoring of engineering activities across multiple projects.
- Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, studies, documentation, and design packages.
- Conduct engineering studies related to transmission, distribution, and renewable energy systems.
- Develop and maintain power system models and perform electrical system analysis.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, project management, and external vendors to support project execution.
- Support electrical system design, commissioning, maintenance, and operational improvements.
- Assist with root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Support compliance with applicable industry reliability and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and effectively communicate technical findings.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance when needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Minimum of 5 years of electrical engineering experience with an active Professional Engineer (PE) license, or 6 years of relevant electrical engineering experience without a PE license.
- Strong understanding of electric power systems.
- Experience supporting utility-scale electrical infrastructure.
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
- Willingness to participate in an engineering on-call rotation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience within electric utilities, renewable energy, or power generation.
- Strong project management and technical leadership skills.
- Experience performing power system modeling and studies using tools such as:
- PSS®E
- SKM
- PSCAD
- PSLF
- ASPEN
- MathCAD
- Experience with:
- High-voltage substations
- Transformers
- HV/LV cable systems
- Inverter-based resources
- Protection and control systems
- Protective relays (SEL preferred)
- SCADA and communication protocols (Modbus, DNP, Serial)
- Experience supporting wind, solar, and battery energy storage facilities.
- Knowledge of generator owner/operator reliability standards.
- Experience performing electrical root cause analysis and corrective action development.
Location & Work Environment
- Hybrid work schedule following onboarding.
- Candidates should reside within commuting distance of the assigned office.
- Travel up to 10%.
- Participation in an engineering on-call rotation.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
