Financial Counselor
Virginia Urology, a large physician practice that has served central Virginia for over 75 years, is seeking a Financial Counselor to work in our Patient Accounting department. The Financial Counselor is responsible for providing a positive financial experience by helping patients navigate and understand insurance benefits and potential financial liability. Financial Counselors are the patient’s point of contact for financial assistance questions. The Financial Counselor collects payments, sets up payment arrangements as appropriate, creates estimates, advises patients in person and over the phone on their insurance benefits and coverage while adhering to practice and regulatory protocols and processes.
Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· 2-5 years in Medical Business Office providing direct patient customer service
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office
· Familiarity with electronic medical records and billing systems
· Excellent customer service skills to communicate professionally and timely
· Ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality
· Able to work autonomously and maintain accuracy while managing interruptions
· Ability to stay calm under pressure and deal effectively with difficult situations.
Key Skills Desired:
· Prior medical office or other health facility experience supporting multiple clinicians
· Knowledge of medical terminology
· Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work well with team members
. Experience with data entry into an electronic medical records system
Physical Requirements:
· Frequent: Repetitive keyboard use, hand motion
· Precise: auditory and visual acuity
. Ability: sit for extended periods of time
This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position in our Patient Accounting department located at 6606 West Broad Street Suite 501, Richmond, VA 23230. The work schedule is Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
