Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, or social work from an accredited college or university (as required by Virginia regulations)
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in substance use treatment, mental health counseling, or a related field
- Active licensure in accordance with 12VAC30-130-5020, including one of the following:
- LCSW – Licensed Clinical Social Worker
- LPC – Licensed Professional Counselor
- LMFT – Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the clinical team on patient care decisions and attend all clinical meetings
- Assess counseling needs and conduct substance use evaluations using DSM criteria and ASAM guidelines
- Obtain and review relevant prior treatment records
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Provide counseling services, including individual, group, and family sessions
- Reassess patients and update treatment plans as clinically indicated
- Develop discharge plans and continuum-of-care recommendations
- Participate actively as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team
- Provide crisis intervention using a collaborative, patient-centered approach
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Manage assigned caseload, including case management, utilization reviews, and clinical charting
- Coordinate support services for patients and families and document all services provided
- Communicate with referral sources (legal, school, employer, etc.)
- Attend team meetings, complete required training, and assist with administrative duties
- Perform other duties as assigned
