Position Title: Corporate Safety Manager
Location: Roanoke, VA (with regular travel to manufacturing facilities)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
The Corporate Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining a comprehensive safety strategy across Virginia Transformer Corp’s U.S. manufacturing operations. This role provides leadership, oversight, and accountability for occupational safety, regulatory compliance, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives across multiple facilities.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on safety leader with experience in heavy manufacturing environments, capable of influencing plant leadership, building strong safety culture, and ensuring consistent execution of safety programs at scale.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Safety Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of company-wide safety policies, programs, and standards aligned with OSHA and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Serve as the primary corporate authority on workplace safety, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance.
- Partner with executive leadership, plant managers, and operations teams to embed safety as a core business value.
Plant & Operational Safety Oversight
- Support and guide plant-level safety managers and coordinators across multiple manufacturing facilities.
- Conduct regular safety audits, site assessments, and compliance reviews to ensure consistent implementation of safety programs.
- Identify trends, root causes, and systemic risks; recommend and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA (as applicable), workers’ compensation, and other relevant safety regulations.
- Lead OSHA inspections, regulatory interactions, and corrective action responses.
- Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping (OSHA 300 logs, incident reports, training records, etc.).
Incident Management & Investigation
- Lead or oversee investigations of serious incidents, near misses, and recordable injuries.
- Perform root cause analysis and ensure timely, effective corrective actions.
- Track and report safety metrics, including TRIR, DART, near misses, and leading indicators.
Training & Safety Culture
- Develop and deploy safety training programs, including:
- New hire safety orientation
- Lockout/Tagout
- Confined space
- Electrical safety
- PPE usage
- Hazard communication
- Champion behavioral-based safety initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
- Drive employee engagement and accountability at all levels of the organization.
Continuous Improvement & Strategy
- Establish KPIs and dashboards to measure safety performance and progress.
- Benchmark best practices and introduce scalable improvements across facilities.
- Support integration of safety considerations into new equipment, processes, and facility expansions.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Industrial Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7 years of progressive safety leadership experience in manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
- Proven experience supporting or leading safety programs across multiple sites.
- Demonstrated ability to influence leaders and drive culture change.
Preferred
- CSP, ASP, or equivalent safety certification.
- Experience in heavy manufacturing, electrical equipment, fabrication, or industrial assembly environments.
- Experience leading safety initiatives in high-growth or multi-plant organizations.
- Familiarity with ISO, environmental compliance, or broader EHS frameworks.
