Position Overview
The Engineering Planner is responsible for translating engineering designs, specifications, and BOMs into detailed, executable manufacturing plans. This role ensures alignment between Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, and Quality to drive on-time delivery and operational efficiency.
This is a hands-on, plant-based role that requires daily interaction with the shop floor and cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Convert engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of material into detailed production work orders and routing plans
- Develop and maintain manufacturing sequences, labor standards, and capacity planning inputs
- Partner with Engineering to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability (DFM)
- Collaborate with Production and Shop Supervisors to resolve workflow bottlenecks and improve throughput
- Coordinate with Supply Chain to ensure material readiness aligns with production schedules
- Support scheduling and planning efforts to meet customer delivery timelines
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve cycle times
- Maintain accuracy of ERP/MRP data related to routings, work orders, and production plans
- Assist in new product introduction (NPI) and engineering change implementation
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–7 years of experience in manufacturing planning, production planning, or industrial engineering
- Experience in a heavy manufacturing environment (transformers, electrical equipment, metals, or similar) strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of BOMs, routings, and manufacturing workflows
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Comfortable working on the shop floor in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
