Stewardship Officer Job no: 534938 Work type: Administrative & Professional Senior management: Senior Vice Pres Advancement Department: University Development Location: Blacksburg, Virginia Categories: Advancement, Communications / Public Relations / Marketing, Fundraising, Alumni Relations Job Description The Stewardship Officer is a member of the Advancement Division's Donor Relations team with responsibilities to pursue and promote the overall institutional goals related to best-in-class stewardship, relationship building, and customer service for internal and external constituents. This role will contribute to the Virginia Tech goal of increasing donor retention and the alumni giving rate. The Stewardship Officer will create and implement an annual strategy to manage, coordinate, and distribute customized stewardship for a portfolio of donors who have supported Virginia Tech. This position manages multiple and competing priorities in the dynamic Donor Relations environment. This role is part of a transparent, innovative, high-performing, and dynamic team. The Stewardship Officer demonstrates best-in-class standards, including meticulous accuracy and anticipating constituent needs. This position has frequent contact with internal and external constituents, providing information and assisting in the resolution of questions while maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive donor information. Additional duties may include strategic collaboration with university partners, along with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with the Advancement Division Stewardship Plan and best-in-class stewardship initiatives. The Stewardship Officer will be responsible for things such as leading gift acknowledgment processes, overseeing stewardship content and strategic messaging, and audience-based or personalized stewardship plans. Additional responsibilities could also include leading scholarship stewardship, executing strategic stewardship for initiatives such as Giving Day, or helping to ensure appropriate documentation and stewardship of leadership, major, and principal gifts. Required Qualifications Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree and experience equating to an advanced degree. Demonstrated experience with multitasking, working independently with attention to detail in a fast-paced, goal and deadline-driven team environment. Ability to handle confidential materials and information. Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Office products. Demonstrated project management experience involving analyzing data, problem-solving with a strategic approach, as well as creative and critical thinking. Demonstrated experience with communication in a professional setting (e.g., individual correspondence, proposals, report writing, marketing). Experience outlining and implementing plans, managing projects, and analyzing data. Demonstrated experience in using a constituent database, such as Blackbaud or a similar system. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with Advancement operations, donor relations, alumni operations, event management, and/or volunteer programs. Demonstrated experience interacting and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders such as faculty, staff, volunteers, alumni, donors, students, and external vendors. Experience developing effective strategies to foster relationships and engagement. Ability to speak and write articulately, persuasively, and with sensitivity to donor concerns. Ability to effectively write and manipulate database queries for the retrieval and production of detailed constituent information. Pay Band N/A Overtime Status Exempt: Not eligible for overtime Appointment Type Regular Salary Information $50,000 - $55,000 Hours per week 40+ Review Date January 7th, 2026 Additional Information Safe Driving Record. Regional and national travel required for the purposes of conducting field research, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, which may include overnights and weekends. Must have the ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation. Ability to work nights and weekends, and participation in college or university programs when possible. The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
