Job Description
This Building Manager will serve as the facilities liaison for university offices. The Building Manager will contact the appropriate university office to find timely resolutions to issues, questions, or events that may arise. Various examples may include: working with the Hokie Passport Office on access control, the University Facilities Office on building maintenance issues, the Central IT on building information technology issues, the Registrar’s Office on the use and scheduling of classrooms after hours, and Classroom Audio-Visual on advanced classroom technology issues, and the Virginia Tech Police on facility security issues. This position will also serve as the building emergency management coordinator for DDS and USLB.
The Building Manager will provide generalist level end-user support and technical support to the audio-visual (AV) systems in the facilities. This includes proactive communication and training for all faculty, staff, students, and guests who use the installed technologies within the facilities. The Building Manager will periodically test the AV systems within the facilities to ensure they are operating as intended. Preventative maintenance of those AV systems will be performed by this position on a bi-annual and on an as needed basis.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality customer service to building tenants and external end users,
- Collaborate with tenants or outside groups to schedule and facilitate events/activities,
- Adhere to all University Policies regarding facility activities,
- Function as an administrator for the facility digital signage solution,
- Function as liaison to Hokie Passport access control for building tenants and events,
- Function as a subject matter expert for the installed AV systems,
- Periodically test AV systems to ensure they are functioning as intended,
- Provide preventative maintenance to AV systems on a regular basis,
- Ensure that classroom spaces are ready to receive faculty, students, and guests,
- Serve as a Building Emergency Coordinator for DDS & USLB,
- Maintain required egress clearance in corridors and at exits,
- Maintain a clean and safe environment,
- Consistently walk the facilities for daily on site, proactive space and facility management,
- Help coordinate relocation or renovation activities,
- Maintain building inventory, key logs, and access codes,
- Function as the liaison with Housekeeping, Facilities, and VTPD.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with facility management,
- Experience with event planning and support,
- Demonstrated ability in customer support,
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic audio-visual system issues,
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form,
- Ability to operate comfortably in high stress environments,
- Experience with Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android computer systems,
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team and independently to achieve goals,
- Must be able to move or lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education,
- Experience in the AV industry,
- Experience with digital signage solutions,
- Knowledge of research labs facility management,
- Knowledge of access control systems,
- Knowledge of space scheduling.
