Job Summary
Pocahontas State Park, located in Chesterfield County, Virginia, is looking for a self-motivated and outgoing individual to provide optimal customer service with a friendly, professional, and courteous attitude. Operate cash registers/point of sale and collect funds through sales of entrance fees, merchandise, concessions, and/or rental fees. Provide accurate and detailed information about park services, amenities, programs, trails, and points of interest. Other job duties include answering phones and radio communications, keeping the sales area clean and well organized, assist in stocking and weekly inventory, and performing other duties as assigned. Positions available in multiple locations as assigned; including boat rentals, visitor center, camp store, ticket booth, and snack bar.

Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Operate cash registers and Point-of-Sale systems efficiently and accurately.
- Collect and process payments for entrance fees, merchandise, concessions, and rental services.
- Provide accurate, detailed information regarding park services, amenities, programs, trails, and points of interest.
- Respond to inquiries via phone and radio communication in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming sales area.
- Assist with stocking merchandise and completing weekly inventory tasks.
- Experience working in a retail environment, providing customer support and maintaining store operations.
- Proficient in Point-of-Sale systems, including Microsoft-based platforms.
- Skilled in cash handling, including counting money, reconciling registers, and completing daily cash-management documentation.
- Demonstrated experience following instructions, collaborating effectively, and working in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong customer service background with effective verbal communication skills.
- Must be available to work holidays, including Memorial Day, July Fourth, and Labor Day.
- Must be available to attend mandatory paid training sessions.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be able to perform manual labor in outdoor conditions, including frequent walking, bending, standing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Position requires flexibility to work various shifts of up to 8 hours per day, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
- Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
- Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
- Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
