What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool & Die Maker position at Virginia Panel Company?
SUMMARY: This position assists the Director of Machining in meeting team quality and delivery metrics.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Planning
- Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models or descriptions and visualize products to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
- Compute dimensions, plan layouts and determine assembly methods and sequence of operations.
- Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, jigs and fixtures and recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of a part.
- Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and model or sketch design of product.
- Machining
- Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machine and grinders to machine parts and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
- Smooth flat and contoured surfaces, fit and assemble parts together into assemblies and mechanisms.
- Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Tool and Die Journeyman’s Certification preferred
- 2-5 year’s experience with manual or CNC machines
