Concrete Laborer
This job description is for an entry-level position that involves performing a variety of physical tasks to support the concrete team.
Job Summary
The concrete laborer assists in supporting various construction projects, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely. The concrete laborer’s contributions directly impact the mission of delivering high-quality construction services.
Duties and responsibilities
- Site preparation: Clean and prepare construction sites by removing debris, digging trenches, and leveling the ground.
- Forms and rebar: Build, set, and brace forms that hold the wet concrete. Place and tie rebar (reinforcing steel) or wire mesh as needed to strengthen the concrete.
- Mixing and pouring: Assist with mixing concrete and direct the truck's chute to guide the wet concrete into the forms.
- Tool operation: Operate and maintain various hand and power tools, including mixers, power tampers, concrete saws, and surveying equipment.
- Material handling: Load, unload, and transport materials and equipment using wheelbarrows, hand trucks, or other machinery.
- Cleanup: Maintain a clean and organized job site by cleaning tools and equipment and removing rubble and debris.
- Safety: Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of concrete properties, curing processes, and mixing techniques.
- Proficiency in the use of specialized hand and power tools for concrete finishing.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications.
- Physical fitness and the ability to work in demanding conditions.
- Must be able to lift heavy materials and stand, kneel, and bend for extended periods.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are often required.
