Summary
Provide oversight, support, and maintenance of the information technology requirements for the Massey Cancer Center (MCC) faculty and staff. Manages all aspects of computer use, computer networks, audio visual requirements, and telephonic equipment throughout the Massey Cancer Center locations. This key position provides a broad range of front-line technical support for students, faculty and staff managing desktop support for hardware and software, installing and maintenance of applications software, licensing, and documentation. Provides consultative, technical, and training expertise to end-users; responsible for initiation of IT-related purchases; new-user standardized network image generation per university standards; responsible for overseeing the preventive maintenance and repair of all MCC technology equipment and management of IT equipment inventory. This position is responsible for advising MCC senior leadership in all areas of IT services, coordinating and interfacing with University and Health System IT staff and representing MCC in university-Wide technology forums. The IT manager will comply with all departmental standards/procedures and with established university technology standards, policies, and guidelines.
Minimum Hiring Standards
· Highly organized and able to maintain composure in a high-pressure atmosphere with frequent interruptions.
· Deep knowledge of operating systems, software, and hardware.
· Experience developing & supporting enterprise network services supporting diverse customer needs.
· Experience managing deployments of laptops & desktops both on and off the network.
· High-level knowledge and extensive experience with Apple and Windows Operating systems.
· Experience managing Server/Active Directory and network requirements in an academic medical research environment.
· Experience managing network security requirements.
· Experience and knowledge of supporting Telecommunication equipment.
· Ability to explain desktop functionality or problem resolution to users in a timely manner using understandable and concise terms.
· 3 years of Redhat Linux Systems Administration
· 3 years of System Administration
· Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Hiring Standards
· A bachelor's degree in computer sciences or related field or equivalent experience required. Significant years of related IT experience including demonstrated technical expertise in specific IT areas, project management skills and lead or supervisory experience required.
· Experience managing IT desktop support professionals.
· Extensive experience of working in an IT support environment, preferably in an academic medical center environment.
· Experience managing Server/Active Directory and network requirements in an academic medical research environment
· Experience and knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
· Experience and knowledge of support requirements for audio visual equipment.
· 3 years of server Operating System (OS) platforms (Linux, Mac, Windows) and SQL Server Administration
· Experience in Microsoft SQL Report Server administration preferred.
· 1 year experience of server and storage administration
· Experience managing IT service budgets.

End User Support Management
· Responsible for the computer, audiovisual, and telecommunications activities of the organization.
· Provides support and direction for end users in the selection and use of hardware/software systems and programs to support a complex research environment.
· Oversees the purchase, installation, and maintenance of all hardware/software for MCC faculty and staff.
· Oversees staff onboarding and ensures their connection to the network is completed with appropriate network access and security levels granted based on position.
· Ensures that all software and hardware modifications are thoroughly tested and documented. Notifies leadership and end-users of changes, as appropriate.
· Oversees the Troubleshooting of hardware/software problems and the implementation of remedial measures to insure optimal working environments are maintained.
Network Management
· Responsible for all aspects of the daily operations for data, voice, and audio-visual networks.
· Manages and coordinates the day-to-day planning design, operations and maintenance of voice, data, and audio-visual networks, to include client server support.
· Supervises and participates in network strategic and tactical planning, communications equipment evaluation, and audio-visual equipment integration into the network; coordinates with end users, vendors, and University and Health System IT leaders on implementation decision; responsible for MCC resource allocation.
· Interfaces and collaborates with University and Heath System IT leadership to coordinate network plans.
Operating Systems, Systems Analysis and Development
· Manages all functions associated with large-scale computer operating systems and related software, including database management, system security and communications.
· Develops standards for all software systems with the hardware configuration in conjunction with other university information systems managers and provides technical guidance to the information systems staff.
Data Management
· Directs and controls the activities related to data planning and development and the establishment of policies and procedures pertaining to its management, security, maintenance, and utilization.
· Provides effective and efficient storage, retrieval, customization and archiving of data.
Computer Operations Management
· Directs and manages the MCC computer inventory, to include servers, communications software and hardware, and audio-visual equipment.
· Plans, organize and control staffing needs to accommodate multi-location operations.
· Develops and optimizes IT procedures to meet federal, state, local, and university requirements.
Server Support
· Monitor and maintain Massey’s Windows and Linux servers.
· Upgrade, install, and configure new software to meet VCY and Massey IT objectives.
· Implement security protocols and procedures to prevent potential threats.
· Mitigate server vulnerabilities to comply with VCU and VCU Health System requirements.
· Performing diagnostic tests and debugging procedures to optimize computer systems.
· Documenting processes.
· Developing data retrieval and recovery procedures.
Salary Range: starting at $125,000, commensurate with experience
