What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Security Officer (Seagoing) position at Virgin Voyages?

This someone will oversee all daily security operations onboard and while in port. We need you to help our Sailors (guests) feel safe. You don't mind posing for a selfie at the pool, but you take pool float thefts and mermaid poaching very seriously. We will lean on you to keep our Guests and Crew safe. Basically, we'll have no fear whenever you're near.
In other words, this someone needs to know how to Make Ship Happen. Your excellent attention to detail and self-starter mentality means you can think quick on your feet and keep calm when ship gets real. Ultimately, we won't be able to remember how we got by without you.
What You'll be Up To:
- The Deputy Security Officer (DSO) shall have an understanding of the VMS (Virgin Management System), including his/her responsibilities in the Emergency Organization.
- Excellent understanding of the company's policies and a thorough knowledge of the ISPS code are essential for this position.
- The DSO serves as an alternate and back up to the Ship Security Officer.
- The DSO attends to all Security matters such as Access control onboard and to the vessel; This includes restricted areas onboard and the integrity of all access points to the vessel.
- The DSO serves as a specialist with regards to shipboard access control, security screening procedures, equipment maintenance, operational training and quality including X-ray CBT modules and Inert threat items testing.
- As directed by the Security Officer, the DSO will lead or assist in investigating and documenting security incidents, crime allegations or security matters onboard and liaising with local authorities and law enforcement agencies.
- The DSO ensures onboard conduct policies are adhered to; this includes Drugs & Alcohol policy, testing of crew members, participating in conduct meetings or hearings and taking actions as needed.
- As directed by the Security Officer, the DSO will lead or assist in investigating and documenting personal injury incidents onboard or ashore.
- The DSO is responsible to train and assign personnel in gangway duties and general ship security tasks.
- The DSO shall supervise the work schedules for the security supervisors and crew and ensure compliance with all company policies and MLC.
- The DSO is responsible for documenting any issues with security crew, issue action plans or corrective action as needed.
- As directed by the Security Officer, the DSO will provide Security Awareness training to all new and returning Crew members and other Security related training to other departments as needed.
- The DSO will strive for a high standard of Security Operations onboard with emphasis on the Security department training, coaching and development.
- The DSO will convey Virgin Voyages values and ensure the fair treatment of all crew onboard while maintaining a safe and secure environment for all persons onboard.
Super Powers Required:
- At least 3 years of professional experience in either Military, Law enforcement, Physical security in a managerial role.
- Must have good knowledge of various security equipment including checkpoint and cargo X-ray screening and metal detection, CCTV surveillance, Trace detection, Defensive Equipment.
- Knowledge of Counter terror measures, anti smuggling measures, access control and physical assessment of a facility.
- Knowledge of the maritime industry, ISPS Code, MTSA, CVSSA
- Must have a valid or able to acquire a Ship Security Officer's (SSO) training certificate.
- Must have all required STCW certificates for this position
- Knowledge and experience in training methods, effective delivery of a lecture and/or presentation to new/returning crew and members or management
- Preferable to have or acquire a Train the trainer certificate or equivalent documentation.
- Proven experience in investigations, Interview techniques, statements, civil / criminal law and managing of an incident or emergency response.
- Must have a valid or able to acquire an Incident Management and evidence collection / preservation training certificate.
- Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with all persons and use conflict resolution and mitigation techniques when needed and de-escalate situations.
- Knowledge of common practices involved with security functions, events, crowd control.
- Ability to manage direct reports and build successful teams in a positive and productive manner by motivating, developing and effectively managing people.
- Ability to utilize and administer the company's disciplinary process through coaching, counseling, action plans and corrective actions.
- TECHNOLOGY LITERATE - Candidate must have proven ability to navigate easily in a technology oriented environment, be able to learn new applications and respond to technology issues. Systems used on a daily basis include office, Google Docs, Sheets, Forms and Drive, Milestone CCTV Video management, VisionLine RFID Key systems, Body Camera systems, AMOS, PMS, Access control and Visitor management systems.
