Child Care Teacher

For 35 years the Roots Early Education Program has been nurturing infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in Colchester, VT. Associate (Lead) Teachers at Roots have the opportunity to shape young minds, work with a team of talented educators, and make a lasting impact on the lives of our children.

Location: Colchester, VT

Starting Pay Range: $23.00 - $26.00/hour

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop age-appropriate lessons and activities that promote and support the building of social skills, practical capabilities and self-esteem
• Collaborate with teachers to supervise, guide and encourage children's learning and development
• Organize nap and snack hours and supervise children to ensure their safety at all times
• Communicate with parents regularly on their child’s day to day progress
• Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards

Job Requirements for Associate (Lead) Teacher:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1-2 years of relevant child care experience working with groups of children from preschool and younger
• Demonstrated interest and ability to work with young children
• Knowledge of appropriate practices in early childhood development
• Demonstrated success in working as a member of a team
• Effective communication skills, written and verbal
• Willingness to work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of the program
• Ability to lift 25-30 lbs
• Ability to squat, kneel, sit on the floor, as well as speak with children and families to ensure the health and safety of each child
• Meets at least one (1) of the following qualifications:
  • 21 college credits in early childhood education or related field OR
  • Associates Degree from an accredited college in early childhood education or related field OR
  • Completed certification in one of the following: Registered Child CareApprenticeship Program, Child Care Certificate form the Community College of Vermont, or Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level 3 Certificate

 Job Requirements for an Assistant Teacher:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1-2 years of relevant child care experience working with groups of children from preschool and younger
• Demonstrated interest and ability to work with young children
• Knowledge of appropriate practices in early childhood development
• Demonstrated success in working as a member of a team
• Effective communication skills, written and verbal
• Willingness to work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of the program
• Ability to lift 25-30 lbs
• Ability to squat, kneel, sit on the floor, as well as speak with children and families to ensure the health and safety of each child
• Meets at least one (1) of the following qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED OR
  • Fundamentals and 12 months of relevant child care experience OR
  • Child Development College Class and 12 months experience OR
  • At least a current CDA and 12 months of experience
