Our 3-5 elemmenary counselor assists scholars with academics, social skills, and emotional development, providing individual and group counseling, and collaborating with students, staff and families to support student learning.
Overview:
The Elementary School Counselor plays a vital role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of all students in Vinita’s elementary schools. The counselor will provide services to students, collaborate with teachers and families, and contribute to a positive and safe school environment. This position reflects Vinita Public Schools' commitment to the well-being and success of every child, recognizing the importance of strong foundations in the elementary years.
Responsibilities:
Direct Student Services:
- Provide individual and group counseling to address students' academic, social, and emotional development.
- Teach classroom lessons on topics such as character education and conflict resolution.
- Conduct assessments to identify student needs and develop appropriate interventions.
- Support students in developing self-awareness, self-regulation, and decision-making skills.
Collaboration and Consultation:
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff to promote a positive and supportive learning environment.
- Communicate and consult with families/guardians regarding student learning and development.
- Participate in school-wide initiatives and teams, such as student support teams.
System Support:
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
- Implement and support school-wide programs and initiatives.
- Stay current on best practices in school counseling.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field.
- Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate with School Counselor endorsement (preferred).
- Experience working with elementary-aged children is preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- A commitment to fostering a caring and inclusive school community.
- Understanding of the unique needs of students and families in Vinita.
