Bus Driver
Job Summary:
Safely and efficiently transport students to and from school, activities, and other designated locations, ensuring their well-being and adhering to all traffic laws and district policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate a school bus in a safe and responsible manner, following established routes and schedules.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, checking for mechanical defects or safety hazards.
- Maintain order and discipline on the bus, ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers.
- Enforce all traffic laws and school bus regulations.
- Report any accidents, incidents, or mechanical problems to the transportation supervisor immediately.
- Maintain accurate records of mileage, routes, and student behavior.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and the transportation department.
- Clean and sanitize the bus interior as needed.
- Assist students with disabilities as required.
- Participate in required training programs and safety meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the transportation supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Valid Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
- Acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and school bus regulations.
- Ability to maintain order and discipline on the bus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with students of all ages and abilities.
- Ability to lift and assist students with disabilities as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to see, hear, and speak clearly.
- Ability to use hands and arms to operate the bus and its controls.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to [Weight] pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and kneel.
