What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hourly Student Worker position at Vincennes University?
General Statement of Duties:
Responsible for shelving materials, “shelf reading” shelves to place in correct order, general straightening of the library, and other library projects as assigned.
Supervision Received:
Student workers in the Public Services Department are directly supervised on a daily basis by the Technical Services Coordinator. Supervision will also come from the two Public Services Assistants and Public Services Librarian. Library support staff may also provide routine guidance. General supervision is exercised by the Director of the Library. If you are unsure as to what has been assigned to you or you have been given conflicting tasks, please discuss this with the Technical Services Coordinator.
Illustrative Examples of Work Performed:
1. Shelve books, magazines, etc.
2. Read shelves to make sure materials are in order.
3. Work to ensure a neat and orderly appearance in the library by:
a. Blocking, shifting, and dusting shelves.
b. Pushing in chairs.
c. Cleaning library furniture, equipment, etc.
4. Empty book return.
5. Put paper in central printers/photocopiers.
6. May assist student users in operating printers/photocopier machines.
7. Checking out books to library users.
8. Scanning & digitizing of documents and other materials.
9. Various other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities of Student Workers:
1. Must come to work as scheduled.
2. If sick and unable to come, must inform the Public Services Assistants or Librarian as soon as possible.
A student worker may be dismissed from working after two unexcused absences.
