Villalobos Law is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support a busy state and federal criminal defense practice based in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
This position is ideal for someone who is proactive, dependable, highly organized, and capable of managing fast-paced legal work with accuracy and professionalism. The practice handles serious criminal matters involving strict court deadlines, detained clients, emergency filings, and sensitive confidential information.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing and calendaring court hearings, deadlines, and client meetings;
- Organizing and maintaining electronic client files and case management systems;
- Downloading, saving, and organizing court filings, discovery, and legal documents;
- Assisting with preparation and filing of federal court documents;
- Communicating professionally with courts, detention facilities, interpreters, opposing counsel, and clients;
- Scheduling jail visits, client calls, and interpreter services;
- Monitoring court dockets and case updates;
- Assisting with billing and timekeeping records;
- Following detailed office procedures and maintaining accurate records; and
- Handling sensitive and confidential client information with discretion and professionalism.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will:
- Be extremely detail oriented and highly organized;
- Be a strong self-starter capable of following detailed written procedures with minimal oversight;
- Be comfortable learning and following established office systems and workflows;
- Be reliable, responsive, and able to prioritize urgent matters appropriately;
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines;
- Be proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Adobe, and general computer systems;
- Be capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy; and
- Demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment at all times.
While training will be provided, this role requires someone who can independently follow detailed manuals, learn procedures quickly, and complete tasks accurately without constant supervision.
Spanish fluency is highly preferred, as many clients are Spanish speaking.

- Monday through Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm
- In-office position based in Las Cruces, New Mexico
- Hourly non-exempt position
- Compensation begins at $15/hour
- Paid vacation and sick leave
