Head Lifeguard Job Description
Purpose
The primary responsibility as the Head Lifeguard is to supervise daily functions of all full-time and part-time lifeguards in coordination with Health Code Regulations to ensure the safety of both the lifeguards and patrons.
This person will need to be able to solve on-the-job issues by utilizing effective critical thinking and decision-making skills and possess the ability to work with diverse populations. The Head Lifeguards must be able to enforce pool policies and be able to communicate effectively why policies are in place.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current accredited Lifeguarding Certification.
- Prior experience lifeguarding or teaching swim lessons.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications or the ability to obtain the certification at the time of hire.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on decks.
Orients new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities.
Ensures that all lifeguards are current on their training and certifications.
Collect and organize all employee certifications.
Conduct and document pre-season test for all lifeguards and instructors.
Ensures that lifeguards perform in accordance with established safety regulations and policies.
Inventory and order all first aid supplies.
Administer and document weekly skills training sessions.
Perform an hourly walk-thru to each pool and lifeguard chair.
Assist in all emergencies including pool maintenance emergencies.
Perform lifeguard duties when necessary.
Carry out additional duties assigned by the Assistant Pool Manager and/or the Pool manager.
Criteria for Success
Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies through knowledge and application of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques.
Ability to enforce pool policies while providing a high level of customer service to patrons and community members.
Ability to display a positive attitude for all patrons and Scarsdale Pool Complex staff.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manages their time and balance professional and personal commitments.
Arrives prepared and on time for work and consistently demonstrates service excellence.
Able to assess a situation and make an informed decision independently.
Ability to work as a team with other lifeguards, facility staff and management.
Pay rate: $20 - $22 per hour.
40 hours per week.
