Rantoul is experiencing tremendous growth, with an emerging economy, an established industrial park, expanding commercial opportunities, a downtown poised for redevelopment, a 75 acre Sports Complex, and numerous indoor and outdoor recreational amenities.

Village of Rantoul is now accepting applications for an After School Program Teachers.

Under the direction of the Site Coordinator, the After School Program Teacher will be responsible for designing, planning, and delivering engaging and educational activities for program participants. The After School Program Teacher will provide instruction, guidance, and supervision during 55-minute program sessions for a nine week session, as well as during the five-minute transition period. The After School Program Teacher is responsible for reaching a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment that encourages participation, creativity, and age appropriate development.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school students interested in a teaching position must first serve as a Teacher Assistant for a minimum of one semester
  • Previous experience working with elementary school-aged children is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the needs and developmental stages of school-aged children
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively with children from diverse backgrounds and with varying needs and abilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and established policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation
  • Basic first aid knowledge and the ability to respond appropriately to minor injuries or emergencies
  • Ability to remain attentive and effective in an active environment with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English. Spanish language skills are preferred
  • Ability to pass all required background checks and meet applicable employment requirements
  • Must be available to work Monday to Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. during academic school year
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Bachelor's degree in education, child development, recreation, or a related field
  • Experience developing or delivering educational, recreational, or enrichment programming for children
  • Specialized skills or experience in sports, arts, academics, technology, or social-emotional development

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • Plan and lead engaging, educational, and age-appropriate activities for After School Program participants
  • Provide instruction, guidance, and supervision during scheduled program sessions and student transition periods
  • Maintain a safe, positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants
  • Build positive relationships with students and encourage academic, social, emotional, and personal development
  • Maintain appropriate classroom discipline and respond to participants needs in a professional and consistent manner
  • Prepare and maintain lesson plans, activities, and program materials in coordination with the After School Site Coordinator
  • Provide appropriate support and guidance to participants and families and communicate participants needs to the Site Coordinator when necessary
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of facility and playground areas
  • Follow all Village of Rantoul program, health, safety, and regulatory policies and procedures
  • Maintain student confidentiality and exercise appropriate judgment when handling student information
  • Work cooperatively with program staff and Site Coordinator
  • Teach or facilitate activities in an area of skill or interest, such as sports, arts, academics, technology, or social development
  • Complete required documentation and records accurately and timely
