Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team. This position is responsible for performing moderately complex accounting work in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), established policies and procedures, departmental guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements.

As a professional-level contributor, the Accountant will manage a variety of accounting functions and play a key role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the organization's financial records. Responsibilities include researching and analyzing financial data, preparing clear and concise financial reports, monitoring departmental expenditures and revenues, and supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting established deadlines. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting sound financial management and contributing to the overall fiscal health and success of the organization.

Duties

  • Prepare journal entries, account adjustments, and fund transfer requests to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, subsidiary ledgers, encumbrances, and other financial records to maintain the integrity of accounting data.
  • Reconcile various general ledger accounts to supporting documentation and information provided by other departments.
  • Maintain accounting records and supporting documentation related to financial transactions, analyses, statements, reports, and other fiscal activities.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all assigned tasks.
  • Prepare and assist in the preparation of financial reports, schedules, and analyses; maintain general and subsidiary ledgers and related supporting documentation.
  • Assist with the research, evaluation, and implementation of new Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements and accounting requirements.
  • Review accounting documents and transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance; prepare correcting entries as necessary.
  • Examine supporting documentation to verify proper authorization and ensure compliance with applicable agreements, contracts, policies, and federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Monitor project budgets and funding sources to ensure expenditures remain within authorized funding limits and identify potential funding shortfalls.
  • Assist departments with financial inquiries, budget monitoring, and the interpretation of financial information.

Skills

  • GAAP, GASB, audits, and other regulatory requirements in the financial field.
  • Debt service, capital investment, and debt instruments and how to best use them as growth instruments.
  • Principles and practices of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
  • Laws, regulations, and procedures in purchasing and procurements.
  • Typical office computer systems and software with advanced skills with Excel; knowledge of Tyler Technologies Software is a plus.

Pay: $55,645.00 - $72,338.00 per year
