Purpose of Position
Employees in a Seasonal Parks Maintenance Technician 1 position perform a variety of tasks in the development, maintenance, and care of parks and recreation grounds, facilities, and equipment.

Position Accountability
General day-to-day supervision, administrative direction, and performance evaluation will be received from the Parks Superintendent.

Supervision Exercised
Employees in a Seasonal Parks Maintenance Technician 1 position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Term of Employment
The Seasonal Parks Maintenance Technician 1 will work approximately 40 hours per week Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. from May or June through August (specific dates to be determined each year).  Some overtime may be available on the weekends to complete park rounds.The following provides an overview of duties related to this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Assists in the maintenance of park grounds and facilities, including ball fields and trails.
  • Assists with tree planting.
  • Maintaining areas with shrubs and flowers.
  • Prepares and paints park and recreation facilities and equipment such as picnic tables, benches, buildings, and playground equipment.
  • Operate pick up truck, sometimes with a trailer, and other equipment like weed trimmer, push mowers, ball diamond grooming equipment, etc. and various hand tools.
  • Prepares ball diamonds for summer use.
  • Complete daily park rounds that incudes collecting garbage/recycling, cleaning shelters and bathrooms, etc.
  • Abide by all safety rules and procedures and participate in safety training and education programs offered by the Village.
  • Report to the appropriate staff member daily assignments as they are completed and keep necessary records.

•    High school diploma or equivalent required
•    Valid State of Wisconsin driver’s license requiredPhysical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to exert physical effort to complete the assigned task.  Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work.  This may include, but is not limited to, some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, crawling, and lifting.  The employee may be required to carry, push, and/or pull objects and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.  

This position is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.  The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb, or balance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

  • This position is exposed to the following conditions: dirt, dust, heat, cold, noise, fumes, odors, wetness / humidity, vibrations, sudden temperature changes, and darkness.  
  • This position occasionally encounters the following: electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, and heights above 10 ft.  
  • This position encounters the following: chemical hazards and moving vehicles traffic.  
  • The work is performed in a variety of settings including outdoors (extreme heat), parks, shop / warehouse, vehicle, streets, and indoor office setting.
  • Requires use of protective devices such as facemasks, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves.
  • Steel or composite toe boots are required.
  • There is occasional interaction with the general public.
