Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) work directly with adults with disabilities both in their homes and in the community. A DSP follows a person-centered care plan guided by the client, which outlines daily support needs as well as personal goals the client wishes to accomplish. Based on each client’s needs and preferences, the DSP ensures a safe and supportive living environment, assists with daily tasks, and teaches life skills such as meal preparation, personal care, financial management, community participation, and social skill development.
