Vijay’s NYC Inc. is a third-generation jewelry manufacturing and service company located in Manhattan’s Diamond District. We work with jewelers, designers, and businesses throughout the industry, providing casting, polishing, plating, stone setting, repairs, and other jewelry-manufacturing services.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Jewelry Polisher to join our production team.
The ideal candidate understands that professional jewelry polishing involves more than creating a shiny surface. The position requires the ability to produce a clean, consistent finish while preserving crisp edges, contours, fine details, stone settings, and the overall integrity of each piece.
This is a hands-on production position and is not intended as an entry-level role.
Responsibilities
- Clean and finish raw jewelry castings in gold, platinum, and silver
- Perform sprue removal, filing, sanding, emery work, pre-polishing, and high polishing
- Apply satin, matte, sandblasted, and other specialty finishes
- Polish newly manufactured jewelry, assembled pieces, and jewelry repairs
- Prepare jewelry for plating, stone setting, and final inspection
- Remove surface marks, scratches, tool marks, and minor casting imperfections
- Preserve sharp edges, symmetry, engraving, design details, prongs, and stone settings
- Identify porosity, pits, seams, loose stones, or other issues requiring additional repair
- Operate polishing motors, lap maching, flex shafts, tumblers, ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, and related equipment
- Select the appropriate wheels, brushes, compounds, and techniques for different metals and finishes
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets company quality standards
- Complete assigned work accurately and within production deadlines
- Maintain polishing equipment and keep the work area clean and organized
- Follow proper shop safety procedures when operating machinery and handling polishing compounds
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of professional jewelry-polishing experience; five or more years preferred
- Experience working in a jewelry manufacturing, repair, or production environment
- Strong experience polishing gold, platinum, and sterling silver
- Ability to take jewelry from a raw casting or repaired condition through final finish
- Knowledge of polishing compounds, wheels, brushes, abrasives, and finishing techniques
- Ability to maintain crisp details without rounding edges or removing excessive metal
- Strong attention to detail and consistent quality
- Ability to work independently while coordinating with jewelers, setters, and production staff
- Dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple jobs
- Authorization to work in the United States
Experience with casting cleanup, laser welding, soldering, plating preparation, or basic bench work is helpful but not required.
