About ViDARR

ViDARR, Inc. is a defense-focused technology company founded by former U.S. special operations personnel. We design and build modular unmanned systems and mission-ready solutions through our Robotics and Defense divisions. Our work combines real-world operational insight with rapid engineering and testing.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Drone Technician to support assembly, maintenance, and testing of small UAS platforms.

This is a 1099 independent contractor engagement, ideal for professionals who prefer flexible, project-based work.

You’ll work alongside engineering and R&D teams to build, troubleshoot, and prepare systems for testing and deployment.

What You’ll Do

  • Assemble complete UAS platforms, including frame, power system, flight stack, RF, and payload integration
  • Configure and validate flight controllers using Betaflight and/or PX4
  • Perform soldering and wiring for: ESCs, motors, XT30/XT60/XT90 connectors, Camera and VTX systems, UART connections and peripheral integration
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across: Power delivery and ESC behavior, RF links (control and video)
  • Flight controller configuration and sensor input
  • Support test events by preparing, repairing, and turning aircraft quickly between flights
  • Execute component swaps, reconfigurations, and field repairs under time constraints
  • Maintain build logs, configuration notes, and parts tracking
  • Support system validation and provide feedback to engineering on failure modes and reliability

How the Engagement Works

  • Work is assigned on a project or build-cycle basis
  • Flexible scheduling based on project needs and availability
  • You may accept or decline assignments
  • No guaranteed hours or fixed schedule

What We’re Looking For

Hands-On Build Capability

  • Proven experience building and repairing FPV drones or similar UAS platforms
  • Strong soldering skills (clean joints, reliable connections, rework capability)
  • Comfortable working with full system builds, not just component swaps

Technical Knowledge

  • Experience with Betaflight configuration and troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of PX4, iNav, or ArduPilot
  • Solid understanding of:

RC systems (ELRS, Crossfire, receivers, binding)

Video systems (analog and digital VTX)

Power systems (LiPo/Li-ion, voltage sag, current draw, ESC limits)

  • Ability to diagnose issues without step-by-step guidance

Execution & Reliability

  • Able to work independently and stay organized across multiple builds
  • Attention to detail in wiring, routing, and system integrity
  • Ability to prepare systems that are flight-ready and reliable

Preferred (Strong Differentiators)

  • Experience supporting FPV pilots or flight test operations
  • PID tuning, blackbox analysis, or performance optimization
  • Experience with custom payloads, onboard compute, or sensor integration
  • Familiarity with long-range RF systems and antenna configuration
  • Experience in defense, robotics, or R&D environments
  • Experience working in fast-paced build/test cycles
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate

Important Notes

  • This is a contractor (1099) role, not a W-2 position
  • Contractors are responsible for their own taxes and insurance
  • Work is performed using your own methods and expertise
  • On-site presence in Portsmouth, NH may be required for certain projects
