The Vicksburg Community School District is a K-12 district in south central Kalamazoo County. Our district serves over 2,600 throughout our one high school, one middle school and three elementary schools, employing approximately 175 teachers and 200 other employees to support the needs of our students. We encompass over 110 square miles of rural, suburban, and small town geography including the villages of Vicksburg and Fulton, and of eight townships. The District boasts fourteen lakes, which creates a unique style of suburban living. Our residents enjoy all the advantages of a small town with a major metropolitan area just a few miles north. The school district takes pride in being a high achieving district.

Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a 6-12 Band Co-Director at Vicksburg High School and Middle School. The Band Co-Director will work collaboratively with the other Band Director to provide high-quality instruction for students in grades 6-12. This position emphasizes a co-teaching model in which both directors share instructional responsibilities, co-plan rehearsals and performances, and work together to provide an outstanding and inclusive band experience for all students.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive and engaging lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles and produce strong results in student learning.
• Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects and performances.
• Plan and direct school concerts, performances, marching band, and other special music events.
• Support the musical growth and development of students through individual and ensemble instruction.
• Coordinate performance logistics, transportation, equipment, music and event preparation.
• Support the Band Boosters in fundraising efforts, purchasing, and event planning.
• Willingness and commitment to participate in professional learning communities, the continuous improvement process and professional development opportunities.
• Ability to motivate and inspire students by connecting classroom and school-wide positive behavior supports and systems while maintaining a safe and positive environment for all students.
• Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the district.
• Participation in instructional coaching cycles with require analyzing data, action planning and reflecting on instructional practices.
• Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff.
• Regular and predictable attendance.
• Other related duties as assigned by building principal or their designee.

Qualifications

• Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in Music Education (JX) or Instrumental Music (JQ)
• Bachelor’s degree including all courses required to meet credential requirements.
• Knowledge of band pedagogy, music theory, music history and performance techniques.
• Experience in directing high school marching bands, including drill design, music selection and coordinating color guard and percussion sections.
• Experience managing an entire instrumental program including concert bands, jazz ensembles, pep bands, and MSBOA solo and ensemble events.
• Strong classroom management skills with the ability to supervise multiple students while establishing routines and procedures that maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.
• Ability to utilize technology to enhance instruction.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Knowledgeable about current educational research and best practices.
• Excellent attendance record and outstanding work ethic.
• Must pass background checks and comply with state and district requirements for working with students and adhere to District and School polices, expectations and protocols

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, bend, reach, and move about the building and campus to assist students.
• May require working in indoor and outdoor settings, including inclement weather conditions.
• May require an employee to lift and/or move heavy objects (up to 50lbs).
